The Four Spiritual Laws
Summary of Method – The four spiritual laws are simple and to the point laws or points to use
when you are talking to someone about becoming a Christian. These four simple laws are God
loves you, man is sinful and separated from God, Jesus Christ is God’s only provision for man’s
sin, and we must individually receive Jesus as Savior and Lord [Sli13]. With each of these
spiritual laws comes a verse or two that you can use to back up the law. When you tell someone
that God loves them, you can easily reference John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that he
gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have
everlasting life,” (King James Version) because in this verse it quotes that God loves the world so
much that He gave His only son, so that we could live forever with Him. Man is sinful and
separated from God may not be the easiest for some to understand, but verses such as Romans
3:23, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God,” (King James Version) make it a
little easier to understand that no one is perfect and we all fall short and sin. Many people think
that just by being a good person will get them into Heaven, but according to the spiritual laws,
Jesus is the only provision for man’s sin. This is shown in the Bible in John 14:6. “Jesus saith
unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me,” (King
James Version). Lastly, we must all individually receive Jesus as our Savior. This means that our
parents cannot do it for us, we all must cry out to God like it states in Romans 10:9, “That if thou
shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised
him from the dead, thou shalt be saved,” (King James Version).
Advantages of Using This Method – A simple advantage to this method is that you have all the
references you need right there in front of you. If someone asks you, why they need to confess

their sins, well you answer is right there in spiritual law number 4, we all must confess our sins
and receive Jesus as our own personal Savior and Lord. You also have the Word of God to back
up every single one of these laws. There is at least one scripture in the Bible for each of these
laws that almost exactly quotes the law and tells us exactly what we need to do.
Disadvantages of Using This Method – Some disadvantages to this law would be dealing with
someone who maybe is blind or cannot read, or maybe even someone who does not believe what
the Bible says. If you run into someone who cannot read or is blind, it will be a little more
difficult to prove to this person that the scripture is really there. Also, if you run into someone
who does not believe what the Bible says, it will be harder to explain that what the Bible says is
true.
Friendship Evangelism
Summary of Method – Friendship evangelism is also known as relationship evangelism. This is
one of the more popular methods of evangelism because it is known to be one of the more
comfortable methods of evangelism [Eva13]. Friendship evangelism is just as it sounds, it is
bringing others to Christ but by first creating or building a relationship with the unbeliever.
Advantages of Using This Method – One huge advantage to the method of friendship
evangelism is that the unbeliever is more apt to trust a friend rather than a stranger. Not that
Christians are going out and lying to people to get them to become a believer, but not everyone
trusts just anyone they meet. Some people need the friendship or relationship before they will
take the time to listen to them and trust what they say.
Disadvantages of Using This Method – Just like anything else, this method does have
disadvantages to its advantages. One disadvantage that I personally think is more major is that

some Christians today do not want to be friends with unbelievers. Then there are also unbelievers
who do not want to be friends with believers. People today are too judgmental before they get to
know someone.
Door-to-Door Evangelism
Summary of Method – Door-to-door evangelism is a pretty self-explanatory method. It is a
method similar to what Jesus used when He went into the streets to preach the Gospel. The door-
to-door method is where you take the church and connect it to the community by visiting people
at their doors or in the streets. You do not always have to limit yourself to residential areas, some
businesses may welcome you in as well to leave literature [MBA]
Advantages of Using This Method – The door-to-door evangelism method has many
advantages to it, such as it is easy, it does not take much work. Scheduling of times can be very
flexible depending on where exactly you are planning to visit. It opens up contacts with people
that may not have ever visited a church if someone not stopped by and spoke to them. It can also
be reasonably cheap as a means of outreach and easy to organize. It all just depends on where
you decide to evangelize and how exactly you plan to do it, whether you hand out tracks or leave
literature, or if you plan to just have a simple conversation with the people.
Disadvantages of Using This Method – With its advantages, comes many disadvantages as
well. Door-to-door evangelism can be dangerous if not approached in the right way. It is smart to
always evangelize as a group of two or more when evangelizing door-to-door. This method is not
for all ages because not all ages are safe to go out into the streets and businesses. Lastly, this
method is harder to get people to do because it can be so dangerous. Also, when people receive a
negative response to their works from the people in the streets, it becomes discouraging and
people lose their motivation to continue with the door-to-door method of evangelism.

Application of These Methods to Your Own Life
What method best fits you? Personally, I think the method that fits me best is the four spiritual
laws method of evangelism.
Why is this the best method for you? I think this method best fits me because everything I need
is right in the palm of my hand. I carry a Bible on my phone in multiple versions so I can show
anyone the different laws. I can also easier explain the reasoning behind my method through the
spiritual laws because I have numerous scriptures to back up my evangelism. These laws are the
basic things needed to be sufficient in receiving Jesus as someone’s personal Savior and Lord.
Now yes, there is more to being a Christian, but this method does start someone out on the right
track and it covers the beginning steps to help them head down the right road to eternal life with
Jesus.
Is this the best method to use with the people in your life? Why or why not? This method is
best for some in my life, but then for others, I need to use the friendship method. This is the best
method for most everyone in my life because pretty much everyone in my life already believes
the Bible but just has not accepted Jesus as their personal Savior and Lord. Basically, I have
already completed steps one through three with most everyone in my life. I personally cannot
complete the last step with them, but I can continue to show them that step four is the most
important and the only way that they will have eternal life with Jesus. Those who the spiritual
laws method of evangelism is not best for are those who do not go to church but do believe that
there is a God. With those people, I have created a friendship so that I can better show the way to
Jesus and they can gain trust in me and what I say. These people will not relate to the spiritual
laws as well because they need the relationship with someone first. Everyone approaches
evangelism in a different method, but in the end, we only make it to Heaven one way.
