Hello Kayleigh, I support your view that American literature forms the lens through which
people view the world around them. Do you think literature can be used as a vehicle through
which people appreciate others' beliefs and cultures? It is through literature that we can gain
some insights into certain cultural groups. For instance, literature from the Native Americans
enables the audience to look at this cultural group and appreciate their beliefs. The American
literature dated many years ago, and it is classified into different periods (Burgess,22019).2During
colonial times, the type of literature witnessed was different from that of the American
Renaissance. During colonial times, literature entailed mainly some writings, and they were
religious, practical, and historical in nature. These pieces of literature stressed critical issues that
were happening in contemporary society. There was also a Revolutionary Age that was
accompanied by writings with the theme of war. This is mostly because of the Revolutionary
War that was going on in American society. The Revolutionary Age is a period when the first
comedy work was authored. Some authors began writing poetry, while others focused on fiction
work. The American Renaissance is a period of literature accompanied by a broad spectrum of
work, including short stories, poems, regional writings, and others. All these periods were vital
because they formed the foundation of the current American society.
