Worldwide Cybercrime: A solution to the issue
I. Introduction
Topic sentence: The rapid global increase in cybercrime is an urgent issue that demands our
attention. Technological advancements, worldwide connectivity, cybersecurity tactics, and
international protective digital infrastructures have all played a role in this alarming trend.
Sentence for transition: Cybercrime includes unlawful online actions, including identity theft and
hacking. It threatens economic stability and national security by causing financial loss, upsetting
operations, and harming reputations, which impacts all people, companies, and countries. (Dong
and Kim, 2023)
Thesis: International cooperation, improved cybersecurity measures, and public awareness can
help reduce the hazards that the surge in cybercrime poses to national security and economic
stability.
II. Body paragraph
Topic sentence: The growth of cybercrime, which has dramatically increased, is not a localized
issue. It impacts people, companies, and governments globally, demonstrating its widespread
effects and growing frequency.
Proof: A massive ransomware attack that attacked [a well-known firm] in [2022] caused
considerable disruptions. By requesting a cryptocurrency ransom, the attackers highlighted the
infrastructure and economic weaknesses susceptible to cyberattacks.
When this advanced cyber-espionage campaign was uncovered in December 2020, it employed
(specific campaign strategies). Sensitive information was compromised, and the attack illustrated
the dangers of supply chain weaknesses.

In July 2020, hackers gained access to several well-known Twitter accounts, including those of
Bill Gates, Barack Obama, and Elon Musk. Using these accounts, they promoted Bitcoin fraud,
tricking followers into sending the attackers cryptocurrency.
Summative: According to the FBI's 2021 Internet Crime Report, 847,376 complaints of
suspected Internet crime were received, with damages exceeding $6.9 billion. According to
Cybersecurity Ventures, the global cost of cybercrime is expected to increase from $3 trillion in
2015 to $10.5 trillion by 2025.
III. Body paragraph
Topic Sentence: Cybercrime has a significant and wide-ranging economic impact. Businesses
and economies can suffer substantial financial losses as a result. Direct monetary losses, incident
response and recovery costs, and long-term effects, including harm to one's reputation and a
decline in client trust, are all included in these costs.
Proof: Ransomware Attack on JBS Foods: In May 2021, the biggest meat processing enterprise
in the world, JBS Foods, was attacked with ransomware. The company suffered financial losses
and disruptions to the meat supply chain as a result, which prompted it to shut down operations
in multiple nations. In the end, JBS paid the terrorists a ransom of $11 million.
Cybersecurity Ventures estimates that by 2021, cybercrime will cost the global economy $6
trillion yearly. This startling statistic highlights how seriously cybercrime affects the world
economy.
Conclusion: Strong cybersecurity measures are essential because cybercrime can have disastrous
financial effects on economies and organizations.

IV. Opposition:
Counterargument: Although the global increase in cybercrime is a serious worry, some contend
that improvements in cybersecurity policies and technology successfully offset these risks,
making them seem less severe than they are. The effect and frequency of cybercrime occurrences
are also anticipated to decrease with greater awareness and training among individuals and
corporations. Cybercrime is also becoming less common due to improved regulatory frameworks
and international collaboration, making it more difficult for criminals to operate. Furthermore,
the necessity to counter cyber threats has fueled the expansion of the cybersecurity sector, which
has resulted in technological advancement and employment development. A balanced viewpoint
on the problem of cybercrime can be achieved by addressing these divergent viewpoints.
V. Conclusion:
Restate thesis: Although cybercrime is a serious problem, we can significantly lessen its effects
by working together, implementing cutting-edge security measures, and raising public
awareness. It's crucial that countries prioritize cybersecurity and promote global collaboration to
make the internet safer.
