ENGL 100
Step 2: Descriptive Paragraph: First Draft
It’s the week after the fourth of July and I’ve just arrived in one of my favorite places. I can
hardly contain my excitement as I walk down the palm tree lined walkway that leads out to one
of the most beautiful, serene places I have ever been. As I stroll down the wooden plank path
with my beach chair in one arm and bag in the other, I hear waves crashing in the distance. As I
get closer, the path starts to become filled with beach grass. Suddenly at the end, it opens into the
beautiful white sand beach that goes on for miles on each side. I set up my beach chair in just the
right spot; not too close to where the water will swallow me whole when the tide rises but not so
far to where I have to walk for a while to get back from the water. I spray myself with sunscreen
and take in a big deep breath. With the sunshine beating down on my face, I slowly walk in to the
water. I look carefully with each step in, as with this part of the Gulf of Mexico, you can see
down to the bottom of the water. I can see sand dollars and sometimes even fish swimming
around. As I lay back in the water and float, tasting the salt from the Gulf, I’m completely at
peace. This is Fort Myers Beach; my home away from home.
