The United States of America is the only western nation Colonial era European settlers implemented one of the
fundamental elements of the new world, discrimination
against those who were not European. People who were
enslaved contributed to the early development of
Americas infrastructure and the production of valuable
goods such as cotton and tobacco. In addition, Native
Americans were robbed of their land and murdered.
Decades later not much has changed. Poverty and racism
are intertwined, and systematic racism continue to exist
within Americas schools as well as other institutions and
socioeconomic status is linked to racism. American
culture can be melded with the customs and traditions of
the immigrant's unique cultural background, making it
possible for the immigrant to incorporate the differences
and acclimate to their new beginnings.
