Curriculum Integration Approaches
Overall, the intended objective for having content specific courses has been grounded on
the philosophy that such structure of education assists students with mastering skills, facts, and
principles in a particular subject matter (Button, 2021). Conversely to the separate-subject
approach, integrated curriculum asserts that skills and facts mastering, should be secondary to
creating a curriculum that is meaningful and purposeful for students. This, based on Button
(2021), could be achieved via the integration of problem-solving and various content areas.
According to Niemelä (2022), curriculum integration occurs when educators combine
multiple content areas in one curriculum or create one course that contains an interdisciplinary
curriculum with the goal of expanding coherence in the curricular or develop a more holistic
learning experience. However, Button (2021) explains that curriculum integration requires
educators to give of their time, as this approach can be time consuming, as well as be humble and
willing to open themselves to the idea of learning information concerning subject matters that
differ from their own. Additionally, an integrated curriculum allows educators to completely
comprehend new perspectives and explore opportunities for developing stimulating lesson
synthesis.
For the purpose of my curriculum change plan, my proposed topic is, Incorporating
multiculturalism as a means for increasing self-discovery and empowerment. Because my
