Good Day Dr. Cordes & Classmates,
I chose to use our first discussion on influencers and social media as being the
most impactful for me. I chose this discussion as Ms. Kendi Adams’ response to my post
provided another approach to my influencer and gave me additional ideas to research.
Mrs. Adams, my fellow classmates suggest that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) isn’t
liked as much as I could’ve expected based on her presence and approach to pushing for
social reform that I found intriguing. I can understand her perspective AOC is a young,
talented, women who must has the odds stacked against her in a largely male population.
AOC has to convey her ideas and agendas in a way that push for socioeconomic change
for all people of color and genders which some may not agree with. With the
controversial overturning of Roe V. Wade this week and how Representative Alexandria
Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) is pushing vehemently to seek justice for women’s rights when it
comes to their personal decisions to make choices for their bodies, we see a rise in social
influence to seek justice, personal emotions, and conflicts towards this verdict.
As a young American politician and social activist of the Democratic Party,
served the 14th congressional district of New York since her unanimous victory in 2019,
AOCs considered the youngest woman to ever serve within the U.S Congress at the time
of her commencement in 2019, which makes her a very influential and respectful
member. Prior to her inaugural election into Congress in 2019, AOC utilizes a heavy
social media presence to convey her initiatives and perspectives on the Roe V. Wade
verdict and the push for social justice.
AOC continues to be a well-respected and admired as a worthy opponent who
focuses on equal rights for all citizens. Regarding conflict resolution, AOC’s initiatives
this week have been for the complete reversal of the Roe V. Wade verdict due to its
negative approach towards the rights of women and the freedom of their bodies. With this
verdict she implies that “our American leaders” have set the country back another 50
years, pertaining to the 1970s acts for women’s equality in the U.S. The Bible states,
“Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against
someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you” (New American Standard Version,1995,
Colossians 3:13).
As a 14th District Representative focus on facilitating total inclusion for Medicare,
the Green New Deal, free university tuition, workplace equality, and the removal of the
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Bureau to facilitate the fair treatment of all
citizens. As an Army Inspector General for the Army, I deal with conflicts and the ability
to provide a fair and impartial service to our Soldiers and civilians. AOC is striving for
the same results of impartiality and equality as Barsky, (2017) states the professional’s
role is to raise awareness of oppression and agitate conflict to stimulate social change; in
other words, conflict is used to upset the status quo and change the balance of power.

Good Day Michelle,
I’ve heard of Nick Vujicic and have listened to quite a of his messages, and I must say
that he’s truly inspirational. As an Army investigator, I continually find myself engrained in
other’s issues where solutions aren’t always an easy approach. Mr. Vujicic’s approach to drawing
strength to overcome personal challenges through God’s blessing is the premise for his sermons
and teachings. The Bible states, “strive for peace with everyone, and for the holiness without
which no one will see the Lord. See to it that no one fails to obtain the grace of God; that no
“root of bitterness” springs up and causes trouble, and by it many become defiled” (New
American Standard Bible, 2011, Hebrews 12:14-15). Through positive collaboration with team
members, directorate agencies, and outside entities, I’m able to effectively resolve most conflicts
quickly. Preparation, collaboration, and amicable solutions are vital to searching for resolutions
to complex and adaptive problems. The ability to approach conflict with God’s guidance enables
communication and empathy to influence our interests and the interests of others. Thank you as
well for your service in the medical community as I’m sure that your impact on those your
served made a difference in their lives. As servers of the community, we must be able to apply
compassion and love into our daily tasks to assist others, and we do this by following God’s
teachings.
Good Day Lori,
After reviewing Robin Hauser’s and Dr. Dorothy Walker’s TED Talks, I would have to
agree on the likeability dilemma on male vs female positions of authority. As an Army Officer,
women in my corps experience the same tribulations when it comes to being seen as competent
individuals based on their positions over men in their fields. I’ve seen this firsthand, and it
appalls me to think that most people strive to be liked over being competent to effectively do
their jobs. Our actions, experience, and holistic approach to getting the job should be the primary
concern but its not always the case.
As an investigator for the Army, I see numerous cases a week where leaders display
negative and counterproductive performance but are liked by many within their ranks. The Bible
illustrates that determining the root cause of our conflicts while striving for peaceful resolutions
with our brothers will allow us to become close to God. Learning to trust, love, and communicate
with others places us on the right path toward seeking God’s wisdom. The Bible states,
“Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God
and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love” (New
American Standard Bible, 2011, 1 John 4:7-8).
