Saint Augustine’s most familiar and famous quote of “All truth is god is truth” express
confidence in God, truth, the Bible, science, and the ultimate alignment of all inquiry and
discovery (Smith, 2020). Tandy, I agree with you that the quote “All truth is God’s truth” can be
used to support things that are not of God. For instance, scientists begin with science as truth and
then evaluate the bible based upon scientific presuppositions. However, evangelical Christians
begin with the Bible as truth and then evaluate science based upon theological presuppositions
(Anderson, 2022). Therefore, you are right on point when you stated that it is imperative for
individuals to step back and accept that other people may not see the world like they do.
Moreover, we must still show love to even those that does not share our views about “All truth is
God’s truth.”
From my personal perspective, I find that with technology and social media, there seems
to be a challenge to Saint Augustine’s quote of “All truth is God’s truth.” In addition, there is the
challenge between modern science and biblical Christianity about the concept of “All truth is
God’s truth” (Anderson, 2022). I believe there is a need in our society for the respect of other and
the tolerance of the biblical and unbiblical, the scientific and unscientific, the moral and the
immoral all at the same time. Therefore, it is the “Your truth is your truth philosophy” rather
than all truth being God’s truth. However, as a Christian educator it is imperative that I know
what I believe, and that my knowledge begins with God and the bible. In other words, I must
respectfully listen and learn the discoveries and truth claims of others because I do consider the
wonders of modern medicine and many scientific discoveries and innovations as gift from God.
Therefore, I agree with you that educators must find ways to accept, love, teach, and empower
students without allowing their personal beliefs to decide what is right or wrong.
Finally, Saint Augustine in his Soliloquies, wrote, “There is no better way of seeking
truth than by the method of question and answer (Smith, 2020).
