Abstract
Students with low literacy levels typically perform poorly and disengage little from the
learning process. As children spend more time in school, their potential and their actual
performance widens. The capacity to read and write, student absenteeism, home environment
features, student attitudes and engagement, school and system issues, and learning difficulties
and impairments all have a role on the level of a student’s literacy. This paper emphasizes low
literacy and is aimed at high school students (Zua, 2021). The widespread consensus on what it
means for a society to be literate centres on the process through which young people's linguistic
skills are first rooted and solidified. Phonological awareness, syntactic comprehension, lexical
depth, and expressive language skills all figure prominently. A person needs certain capabilities
to participate in a meaning system.
