PERSONAL PHILOSOPHY 2
Personal Philosophy of Technology in Education
Summary
Technology’s purpose in education is to support the learning process. It is not just a
stand-alone tool, but a means to prepare students for the future. Roblyer and Hughes (2019) point
out that while computers have not been a part of the classroom for every student until recently,
the educational technologies of our classrooms have been under development since the 1950s.
The ever-changing world of technology is one that our students live in and must be
knowledgeable about to prepare them for life. Including technology in our education system is
not just vital, but a forward-thinking approach to their success.
ISTE Standard 1 specifically states, “Educators continually improve their practice by
learning from and with others and exploring proven and promising practices that leverage
technology to improve student learning” (Crompton, 2023). This standard not only underscores
the necessity for us as educators to continually grow in our teaching, but also in the technology
field. It is a professional obligation that, when embraced, empowers us to prepare our students
for using technology in various learning and real-life scenarios.
Students who are exposed to various types of technology can benefit in various ways.
However, it's crucial for educators to guide and monitor their use to ensure it is productive and
not excessive. Technology is one way to provide differentiated lessons to students. Students are
given visual and auditory learning, which is an additional learning style. Technology is a skill
that students will need in life as adults. Teaching students how to navigate tech is a necessary
skill for their future.
Biblical Defense
PERSONAL PHILOSOPHY 3
Wisnewski (2024) presents an overview of Biblical verses that defend technology.
According to Wisnewski, Merriam-Webster defines technology as “an invention of useful things
to solve problems” (Wisnewski, 2024). When looking this up, however, I did not find this
definition, but “the practical>application of knowledge especially in a particular area” (Merriam-
Webster, 2025).
>>>>>> With the above definitions of technology, technology is seen throughout scripture.
Exodus 35 is one account in which technology is used to construct the tabernacle. The explicit
details given to Noah in the building of the ark in Genesis 6 would be another example of the use
of technology using the above definitions.
>>>>>> While scripture does not state that God is for or against technology, we are to “do it all
for the glory of God” in I Corinthians 10:31. Prior to this; Paul wrote in I Corinthians 9:22 that>“I
have become all things to all people, that>by all means I might save some”. We are to reach
people for Christ and use what we can to make that happen. We must be mindful of how we do
so as if we must always bring God glory. This does, however, provide ways in which technology
can be utilized. Churches today use a variety of resources to reach people. These include email,
websites, social media, radio, television, movies, and the internet. Services that keep track of
membership, tithes, groups, and communication can also be included (2024). Using technology
wisely benefits the church, and the Bible supports it.
Technology in the Classroom
As teachers, we are to continue to grow in our learning of technology, use it to enhance
our lessons, and be Biblically supported. In this way, approaching technology in my classroom
based on that will enhance the lesson and support my student's learning. Currently, as a Title 1
teacher, I am limited in my use of technology due to the shared space of my classroom. Using

technology to teach my students would be a distraction as another teacher is teaching on the
other side of the class. We each pull small groups of students simultaneously due to limited
space. If space were not an issue, I would enhance lessons with technology when it would benefit
the student's grasp of the subject.
In one reading group, I did introduce a new book by using Google Earth to show the
students where the Netherlands was on the earth, what continent it was on, and its nearby ocean.
We also watched a short video on dikes and pollards to understand them before we began our
reading of "When the Dikes Broke."
Our calling as teachers Biblically, and most importantly, is to continue to grow in our
learning and always give our best for God. In this, our students will receive an education of the
highest quality. Technology is but one avenue to enhance the learning that we provide to our
students.
