Dispositions Ellison
During my time in this class, I have had to model social responsibility. To be successful
in an online learning environment, social responsibility is required to benefit the class. A person
needs to know how to work and cooperate with their peers o gain knowledge and other insights.
Throughout this class I have had to interact with my peers and teachers in classroom discussions,
and with so many diverse backgrounds and experiences our opinions I have had to operate with
fairness and respect when responding to their posts. This class has prepared me to be able to
instruct children of many diverse backgrounds. With learning how to manage behaviors no
matter how challenging and understanding that it is not one size fits all when it comes to children
whether it's teaching a lesson or managing a challenging behavior. Regardless of background or
limitations I have gained the insight to know that all students can learn if given the chance. I
currently work with students who are considered “low” academically, and sometimes that comes
with hard to manage behaviors. I have learned that applying positive reinforcement has worked
wonders with them. I have implemented sticker charts, and they are able to gain stickers by
making good choices such raising their hand, listening quietly to a lesson, or being kind to their
classmates.
I have demonstrated commitment and work ethic since starting this class. This class was my first
class in my pursuit of my Master’s in Teaching. When I started the class, I knew it was a huge
commitment because I already have other commitments in my life. I work full time at an
elementary school, run a small business, I am a mother of 2 girls, and I am currently doing it all
alone since their father is currently deployed. Adding school to the mix of life was going to be a
challenge I knew I would have to be available for. I have managed to be faithful to my goal to

obtain another degree. I have completed and turned in all my work in a timely fashion and made
sure that it is my best work. I have taken the time to research and find scholarly materials to help
not only myself, but my classmates as well since they read what I contributed to the class. I also
must model this at my job by making sure that I come in fully prepared for the day. Meaning I
need to make sure I have read all my plans and created activities to help keep my students
engaged especially since we are still hybrid.
I have had a chance to reflect on everything I have been doing in my class, and by taking this
class it has given me ideas on what I could do better to help my students. It taught me that just
because my method works on the majority does not mean that I do not need to learn other
methods to help the other kids in my class. Sometimes a child does not need to be labeled I just
need to learn to teach in a way that they are able to learn too. This class has given me access to
many educators, and how they manage a classroom. I have implemented some of their ideas with
success.
Integrity means to be honest, have good morals and that is something every teacher and
student needs to display. To teach integrity is something you must possess and be able to model
for those around you. I model this in school by following the code of conduct for school and
making sure I am honest and that the work I turn in is completely my own. I am always striving
to remain Christ like or Christ- centered with my actions, and my words. This is especially
important when talking to other educators about children with 504 plans and such. I need to
display that I am trustworthy and can talk about confidential or sensitive topics without fear of it
being repeated.

Professionalism is the conduct and behavior that one exhibits that is appropriate for
someone that is a professional. Since this class is online, I must be able to model that through the
words that I write. I must be mindful of the language that I use, and the tone that is presented
when it is being read by others. When reaching out to my professor about what is expected, or if
something needs to be clarified I must make sure that I approach the situation in a professional
manner and have the patience to wait for a response. When at work I make sure that I am
professional in how I look and how I speak so that I am presenting myself in the best possible
light. I show up to work on time, dressed appropriately, and with a smile on my face. I can show
that I can collaborate with all my teammates, and that I am flexible enough to be able to handle
sudden changes.
Having the Fruit of the Spirit as a teacher makes educating children so much easier.
Everyday requires that you show love to the students who might only get it from school. Joy in
the job that you do, and the mark you are leaving behind. Peace of mind to know that you have
done your best for yourself and those around you. Gentleness with your words so that they are
more open to receiving what you are trying to teach them. Patience is needed when dealing with
challenging behaviors and trying to find a solution to manage them. Modeling kindness to those
around you so that you can teach your children what it looks like, and the importance of it. Self-
control when you become upset or have an exhausting day with your students. All these
characteristics are important when you are shaping young minds.
