Recently, I have began to have a change in my reason for becoming a
teacher. When the pandemic began I was in my first year of teaching and
just kind of making it through the first year. Then as we transitioned to a
new school year I saw the amount of education the students had lost. My
meaning behind teaching my students had transitioned from just covering
the needed content. To making sure the students have the foundation they
need to be successful before I could even begin to cover the needed
information.
To attract more teachers who are of minority races is a need in a lot of
school communities. In order to bring in more the school district has to be
more accepting of others cultures and their cultural needs. Schools need to
advertise more towards the diverse teachers and incorporating them more
into the higher positions in a school system. This will show that those
minority races they are appreciated and wanted.
My thoughts on a Professional Learning Community (PLC) are high. Our
school community is currently working on qualifying to become part of a PLC.
Mike Mattos stated, "Professional Learning Communities is an ongoing
process in which educators work collaboratively in recurring cycles of
collective inquiry" (Mattos, 2020). I have not seen any drawbacks thus far
during our time of becoming a PLC. We are able to work together to bring
data to drive our instruction to benefit our students.
My opinion on my current teacher preparation program is very high. I
am enjoying learning and creating a lot of new information. This program is
allowing me to remember information I haven't used in quite a while.
