Illuminations
The Illumination website is a geared for all grades from PreK-12. It is an interactive mathematics
website that provides students with an opportunity to enhance their understanding of math
concepts through playing interactive math games and activities. It appears to be very easy to
navigate which is good for use by teachers, students and their families. However, it does require
a membership
National Council of Teachers of Mathematics
The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics is a website that provides educators wonderful
resources through access to mathematical publications and resources to assist with instruction in
the classroom. The website also provides educator access to communicate with other educators
to share opinions about information being used from this website to assist in the classroom. This
website allows educators to have resources that benefit the classroom by providing an increase in
learning, professional development, and advocacy.

Figure This is primarily targeted to middle school children and their families to provide higher
level math concepts and learning. The website uses word problems and other interactive
approaches to enhance the students learning environment. Figure this can provide families with
tools to help further explain and teach what the student is learning at home.
ARC Center

The ARC Center is for educators only. Itr is a membership based resource that requires a
membership fee. The ARC Center provides teachers with resources and support for
enhancement, leadership development skills, and public awareness of mathematics within the
education system. It provides access for multiple school districts to come together and create
content worthy of both state and national standards.
Writing and Communication in Mathematics
Writing and Communication in Mathematics is a website that provides access to online journals,
blogs, and articles for teachers of mathematics to collaborate ideas for increasing writing and
communication in the subject. These sources offer multiple strategies for students to utilize in
math, and also provides discussions for issues teachers may encounter in the classroom. The site
provides an online library for teachers to access at any time.
PBS Teacher Source
PBS (Public Broadcasting Station) Teacher source is an excellent and renowned website for
grades pre-K- 12 that provides teachers with an abundance of sources for Math, Science, Social
Studies, Language Arts, and Foreign Language. The site also provides professional development,
courses, teacher blogs, and productivity tools.
The International Study Group on Ethnomathematics
This site allows for mathematics teachers to collaborate ideas internationally. The site provides
members with a forum to discuss best practices in mathematics for others to utilize within the
classroom. There are also links to read articles and publications submitted throughout the word.

The cite can be somewhat difficult to navigate if you can not find translated versions of the
material.
Cool Math Games
Cool Math Games is a website that teachers can introduce to their students as a tool used to
increase the knowledge of mathematics concepts through fun games. Some of the games may be
a little trivial. The This site is very user friendly and provides countless games that can peek any
student’s interest. If you continue to explore the website, you will also find games for geography
and science.
Association of Teachers of Mathematics
The Association of Teachers of Mathematics is a membership/fee based website. It provides
teachers with support on teaching mathematics to the learning needs of different students. The
website provides professional support providing educators with a platform to share ideas and
journals that focus on teaching mathematics.
Count Us In
Count Us In is an online learning center that helps to teach students the basic concepts in
mathematics. Users have access to interactive games and videos to peek students’ interest in
mathematics. They also provide a download option of games for users this will allow them to
play the games without internet access.
Math Playground

Math Playground is a website for students to use to progress in sub-specific mathematical
concepts. The grade appropriate level concepts provide interactive gaming applications. The site
provides games that are targeted for students in grades 1-6 and is user paced. This website is
great for classroom activities, projects, and free time.
Arithmetic Four
Arithmetic Four is a website that provides math activities for students to utilize to increase
knowledge of math concepts. In essence using the connect four game, two students compete in
solving math questions for the red or black game pieces. The questions are designated based
upon the selections selected prior to the commencement of the game.
Jefferson Lab (math Games)
This website uses fun interactive games to help teach and practice math skills. There are many
options to practice and teach many math skills. Students could spend a lot of time omg this site
playing with all of the options. This is a great tool to be used in or outside of the classroom.
Base-Ten Blocks
Base-Ten Blocks is a virtual tool for student to use in grades 3-5. It does not appear to be very
user friendly and appears to be membership/fee based. I believe it is supposed to demonstrate
how the base-ten value system works by using fractions, decimals and an abacus.

This website helps students practice and better understand rounding numbers through a fun
matching game. The students will match numbers by rounding one of the pairs and matching it to
an already whole number, this checks for accuracy in rounding.
Defeat the Fraction Monster
Defeat the Fraction Monster is a website that provides students with the opportunity to play fun
interactive games to allow the development and a better understanding of fractions. This is a
great way to provide students with extra help when they are struggling with fractions. Several of
the games listed on the site are free, but there are some that are fee based.
Maze Game
This resource helps students learn and practice graphing. The student supplies the X & Y
coordinates, and the computer generates the slope. The student is to move a robot through a mine
field avoiding mines to get to a targeted location on the map. This can help them understand how
graphs work and display data.

Five Favorite
Over all, all of these websites can be useful for teachers. I especially found them interesting
during a time like our current situation where many schools are teaching virtually. These online field trips
can teach the students tips, tools, and information beyond the standard google classroom atmosphere, that
can make them fun and that the student can use at home. They are also an excellent tool for learning fun
new ways to teach the kids math skills.
Five websites particularly stuck out to me. First, I most enjoyed PBS Teacher Source because it
provided excellent information and activities for several subjects. I can refer to this site for different
lessons and encourage students and their families to visit it at home too. PBS gives teachers access to
videos to display for their students. The concepts provided by this website will increase their learning
through interactive and fun methods. This resource also assists in ways to increase understanding of
concepts to teach to students and allow them and the teacher to meet the state and national standards of
learning. Secondly, I enjoyed The Association of Mathematics because it is full of support and journals
that will hopefully help me with my professional development. This site does need a membership/is fee
based, but I do think it is a tool worth a school or me as a teacher investing in. The journals and support
are excellent resources to have in your teacher/professional library to excel in teaching, and to improve
my abilities in and out of the classroom to better serve my students.
For my third favorite, I chose Cool Math Games because the site provides several different games for all
age groups to enhance their understanding of math. This website can make math fun and interactive while
sharpening students’ math skills. It can even be used at home to strengthen relationships with students and
their families about school. The fourth most interesting and potentially useful site I encountered was Math
Playground. I enjoyed Math Playground because it essentially is geared towards the elementary school
aged student, which is what I want to teach. The site provides fun games to help enhance the student’s
understanding of concepts taught in the classroom. I plan to use it and will encourage others to because it
seems to be a valuable resource for elementary teachers needing help with getting students to understand
certain concepts without hating math.

The final site that I liked and will most likely use was Defeat the Fraction Monster. I enjoyed this
site because I know I struggled with learning fractions, and I have found that many students do too.
Defeat The Fraction Monster seems to breakdown the negative stigma of learning fractions, while
bringing fun into the classroom (or home). If the students enjoy this site as much as I believe they will,
time on the sire can be done for homework, and they may even venture to the site in their own free time!
If so, this can really help improve their math skills and help encourage positive academic behavior.
As mentioned earlier, I found all the sites to be useful in an elementary math classroom. However
the aforementioned ed five websites in this article are what I deem my favorite and the ones I am most
likely to use.
