T APERSONALHEORY SSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS
This assignment will allow you to articulate your own personal theory of learning and
development as it relates to you specifically as an educator, an administrator, and/or a leader.
Learning theory describes how people grow and develop. For this paper, you will articulate your
theory specifically for the personal role of the educator. You will support it by using theoretical
perspectives of what defines the best in education from a Christian perspective. Your completed
paper will give you a conceptual framework from which to build upon thus enhancing the
teaching-learning process.
The paper must be a total of seven pages: five pages for the body, a title page, and a references
page. It must include at least six scholarly sources from the Jerry Falwell Library, plus both
textbooks (Slavin & Schunk and Van Brummelen). All sources must be published within the past
five years. Points will not be deducted if the number of sources you use exceeds the minimum
requirement.
Throughout your paper, you must also weave a solid biblical basis for your theory that is
supported by specific scriptures referenced by chapter and verse. Your paper must be concise,
well-developed, and follow current APA formatting guidelines.
You may find it useful to focus on the educational area in which you intend to serve (elementary,
middle, high school, gifted, ADHD, special education, etc.).
Throughout this paper, it is essential that you demonstrate your understanding of the readings
and coursework. Your learning theory must be unified and congruent. Organize your paper using
the following headings:
1)Introduction
2)Qualities of an Effective Role Model
3)The Teacher as an Effective Role Model
4)The Teacher’s Responsibility as an Effective Team Member
5)The Teacher’s Role in Cultivating Good Parent/Teacher Relationships
6)The Teacher’s Approach to Student Diversity
7)The Teacher’s Approach to Learners with Exceptionalities
8)The Teacher’s Journey as a Lifelong Learner
9)Conclusion
*You may substitute administrator or leader for teacher if needed to better articulate your theory.
Throughout your paper, be sure to include principles of the developmental learning theories (i.e.,
Bandura, Vygotsky, Erickson, etc.) studied in this course, as they relate to your educational area
and population. Incorporate specific theoretical terminology that demonstrates your
understanding of each of the theories. Throughout your paper, form your assertations from both a
developmental and biblical perspective. You will find valuable information for each of these
sections in your course textbooks.
