Abstract
This mathematics STRAND project is centered around 2 grade SOLs 2.5 and 2.6 on
nd
Computation and Estimation. The activities provided in this project encourage students to grow
in their understanding of adding and subtracting numbers to find the estimation of the sums and
differences. There will be many visuals and other resources presented to the students to help
them along the way. Students will practice adding and subtracting numbers under 20 and once
they have mastered this skill they will advance to estimation. They will be using the properties of
estimation to solve single step and two-step practical problems involving addition and
subtraction. The activities provided in the STRAND support a variety of learners. The project
includes a number of activities, notetaking devices, and assessments that will support the
students understanding of learning addition and subtraction to find the estimation of a problem.
