All About Me
Before I was an elementary education major, I was planning on majoring in nursing.
Nursing requires a ton of different calculations, and if you get those calculations wrong, it could
endanger the patient’s life. I decided that becoming a nurse was not God’s plan for me. I
switched my major to Elementary Education Integrated Studies with a concentration in
mathematics. I chose this subject area because I have always been interested in math. Once the
new program came out, I decided to switch and not have a central focus. When I was in school,
my teachers always made math engaging and hands-on. Through them, I found many different
activities that they used in the classroom that I want to pass on to my future students.
Math is a subject that people use every day for their life. It is important that at a young
age, students get the basic foundation that they can build off of as they get older. As students get
older, it is important that students know how to apply those skills to their everyday lives in the
present and in the future. As a teacher, it is important that we have the skills and the knowledge
so that we can pass it on to our future students so that they can grow into great mathematicians.
My personal definition of mathematics is the study of numbers and how to apply them in
different situations. As a teacher, I want to use this definition to its fullest extent and teach my
students how to apply these math skills to their personal lives. Although I want to teach around
second or third grade, I want my students to be able to build off of what they learn and remember
it for future use. This definition will create a positive attitude when it comes to learning about
math. I want students to be excited to see what math can do and how to manipulate it to work for
everyday tasks.
It is difficult to make a connection between math and my everyday Christian life. It is
safe to say that God is the greatest mathematician there is. I know I do not thank God enough for

giving us math, but it is important that we do because without math, we would not have a lot of
the answers about specific things within science and other subject areas without it. It is a great
tool that was given to us from God, and we, as Christians, should thank him for it more often.
