Financial Literacy Activity and Reflection
Review of LU Center for Financial Literacy Resources
Financial Literacy Resources:
Ron Blue Library is the first resource I reviewed. They offer “free financial planning
resources that are grounded in biblical financial wisdom. Confidently pursue your decision-
making process with tools that promote integrity, stewardship, and generosity.” (Center 2022).
Financial Literacy class is another resource I looked at. “Broaden your financial expertise and
learn skills essential for budget planning, money management, maintaining financial
responsibility, and more” (Center 2022).
Reaction:
On the website for Ron Blue, there are many resources to browse. For example, vision for
the future, budget worksheet and transaction record. For the financial literacy course, it is
interesting how it assists students in understanding how to pay for college, manage money, and
maintain financial responsibility. Both resources had brief information on there websites.
Usage:
I plan on using the Vision for the Future goal setting worksheet they have on their
website. This will help me figure out plans for when I graduate and more to student teaching.
While in student teaching, your only allowed to work ten hours. That is not enough hours/pay to
pay for rent, groceries, gas and unitizes. This plan will help me save money now so when fall
semester comes around, I will have money and not be so stressed.
Review of Ron Blue Institute Information
Ron Blue Resources:
Pie Diagram (budgeting) Worksheet is the one I completed. This pie diagram breaks it
down by Live, Give, Owe, Grow. I really like this diagram, it really breaks down what you
3
make, what you give, and what you owe. Giving is 13%, Grow is 9%, Owe- Debt is 36%, Owe-
Taxes 27%, and Live is 15%. The diagram also talks about the five money management
principles. The one thing that stood out to me was “Giving breaks the power of money.”
Spreadsheet Completion: [Name and describe at least two resources that you reviewed to
complete the Ron Blue spreadsheet. This response should be at least one solid paragraph of five
sentences.]
[Insert paragraph response here. Support your response with information from the
resources and utilize current APA formatting.]
Spreadsheet Outcomes:
My live amount is only $8,000, this really put in perspective that is enough money for me
to be stable. God’s protection, my responsibility to provide. A lot of people think they need all
this money to survive and in reality, they only need a few dollars and God will protect us.
Another outcome was the amount to give was $7,000, this number seems too small. When giving
I would like the amount would be bigger. Now obviously this is just a ballpark diagram, I can
give more if I would like too.
Biblical Principles for Salaries, Spending, and Budgeting
Salaries:
“Pay them their wages each day before sunset because they are poor and are counting on
it. Otherwise, they may cry to the Lord against you, and you will be guilty of sin” Deuteronomy
24:15. my biblical views on salaries are like this verse, if you work then you should get paid for
it. The Lord sees that we work really hard at our jobs and that we want to get paid for our hard
work.

Spending:
We can buy whatever we want, and we can easily lose focus and take God for granted,
looking for and desiring the material things He can give us, rather than desiring him. “Do not
work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will
give you. For on him God the Father has placed his seal of approval” John 6:27. Sometimes we
face to look to the gift rather than the giver. God will always provide for us; we may worry and
stress about how we are going to pay for this and that, but he always provides.
Budgeting:
“Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the
cost to see if you have enough money to complete it? For if you lay the foundation and are not
too able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule you, saying, this person began to build and
wasn’t able to finish” Luke 24:29-30. This verse is a very good definition of budgeting, you
would want to make sure you have enough money to build or pay something huge.
