Textbook Reflection: History & Geography
Part A – Textbook Information

There are many ways teachers can develop students' chronological thinking,
interpretation and research skills in history and geography. To incorporate chronological
thinking, teachers can stress the importance of the book structure. For students to have a greater
understanding of history, they must know when the events took place. Locating the beginning,
middle, and end of events in a book and writing short summaries is a great activity to enhance
students' chronological thinking. Timelines can also be beneficial (Maxim, 2018). A way that
teachers can develop historical interpretation is to encourage the students in critical thinking. The
teacher can stress the importance of knowing the written point of view and analyzing primary
and secondary sources. Research skills can be accomplished by formulating historical questions
that lead to investigation and discussion (Maxim, 2018).

A fun activity incorporating the 5 Themes of Geography and history would have students
break up into groups to analyze historical maps and features (Maxim, 2018). Once the students
have viewed these resources, they can research the physical and human features of the land.
Then, students can choose a location and describe how the features of the land impacted
historical events. For instance, students can locate Indian territory and research how the land
impacted their lives. Information such as how the land and soil were for them to plant crops or
how mountainous the region they walked to hunt on are prime examples.

When we prepare our students with geographic knowledge and skills, we empower them
to learn how to care, understand, and make consequential environmental decisions (Maxim,
2018). By understanding geographic skills, students understand people's impact on the
environment, how the land affected human living and events, and how geography played a
prominent role in conflicts throughout history. With the help of geology, we can locate original
colonies, ancient settlements, and other essential landmarks in history. Geology skills have also
been utilized to find artifacts and the remains of essential resources used throughout history
(Maxim, 2018).
Part B – Biblical Worldview
Select one of your responses to the prompts above and fully explain your response utilizing a
biblical perspective. Make sure you include a Bible verse and explain how this verse is relevant
to the prompt and supports your biblical perspective. This section should be two solid paragraphs
of five sentences each.
[The response I want to look at the response with a Biblical perspective in response
number three. The Lord has made a way for us to understand the importance of Geography. The
geography that the Lord uses in the Bible comes to my mind first. Rivers, mountains, countries,
tribes, and geographical boundaries are found throughout the Bible. Geography is a part of God’s
creation and the prophecy He has told us; therefore, it has essential value.
[Geography is vital in proving God's existence and the Bible's reliability. For instance,
the Lord explains that the Nile River will dry up in the end times. "And the waters shall fail from
the sea, and the river shall be wasted and dried up" (King James Version, 1611). According to
current news, the Nile River has dried up. This is just one of many examples of how God uses
the importance of Geography to inform his people.
