Dear Professor Falwell:
Throughout this course, I have recognized the many strengths in written communication and
APA style that I possess. I think one of the most important strengths that I have in written
communication is the ability to be professional and clearly convey my ideas and information.
During this course I have also noticed my ability when using written communication and APA
style writing to use accurate grammar and spelling, avoiding errors that could detract the reader
from the message. When communicating, I prefer to use written communication over phone
communication, which I understand will not always be possible. I believe this is because when
communicating through writing I am able to gather and organize my thoughts rather than having
to think about them immediately.
In this course I have also been able to find weaknesses within my written communication and
APA style writing which has allowed me to work on correcting these areas. In this course, I
noticed that the relevance did not always stick to the main topic and would sometimes drift
away, adding unneeded information to my writing. This course has allowed me to organize my
thoughts to avoid irrelevant information, maintaining focus on the main topic.
I have learned much throughout this, including the importance of written communication. It is
essential to keep communication open with parents, whether it be by email, letter, flyer, points,
and levels systems, and/or other various methods of communication. Communication with
parents is essential and can allow the student to strive emotionally, socially, and academically.
One thing that I have learned this school year, and within this course, is the importance of
communicating positive behaviors. Occasionally, it seems that it can be easy to get wrapped up
in the negative or things that are not going right and unintentionally forget about the positives
that are happening within the classroom.
Moving forward, I look forward to applying all of the information I have learned throughout this
course. The information and knowledge that I have gained from this course will allow me to
organize my thoughts so that I am able to communicate effectively with parents and co-workers.
This will allow me to create and maintain a positive learning environment by engaging with my
student’s families, involving them in their child’s social-emotional and academic growth. In
addition, the information I have learned will allow me to collaborate and convey my ideas with
other teachers and co-workers, maintaining a positive working relationship and environment.
