Introduction
By definition, a worldview is a particular philosophy of life or conception of the world. Our
individual worldviews: the way we view the world is often influenced by cultures, upbringing,
the media, and etc. A personal worldview can be defined as what the individual believes to be
true as well as what determines an individual’s choices or decisions. In contrast, a biblical
worldview is a worldview that is grounded in the Bible. Worldviews have serious implications on
our daily lives, such as how we communicate with others, how we raise and educate our
children, and how we carry out our professional careers and lives. In this paper, I will be
discussing the biblical worldview and Christian philosophy of education as well as their
implications in a school setting.
Biblical Worldview
As mentioned previously a biblical worldview is grounded in the Bible. In other words, a
biblical worldview is a view that sees the world through the lens of Scripture. It’s important that
a worldview offers a comprehensive understanding of all the aspects of life. I believe that the
biblical worldview does so. According to my research, there are seven elements in the biblical
worldview. The first element of this worldview is God, which the Bible defines him as all-
powerful, all-knowing, and unchanging. The second aspect of the biblical worldview is the
universe. Christians believe that God is the creator of all things including the universe. As well as
the theology that the universe is an open system. Meaning that the world and its progression are
open to altering by God and his followers. Therefore, we conclude that the actions and choices of
humans have long-term and consequential effects on the world and its progression. Humanity is
the third element of this worldview, and it focuses on the dignity and fall of humanity. Christian
theism believes that humans are created in God’s image and therefore are indirectly a reflection
of his glory. The fourth element is death, which illiterates that everyone that dies either lives
eternally in bliss with God or in torment separated from God. The fifth element of the biblical or
Christian worldview focuses on “human knowledge or knowing”. Christians believe that this
knowledge is the result of God’s grace and that in God’s grace, all humans are given the
competence to know and understand the world around them. Furthermore, Christians believe that
God grants people this knowledge because he is all-knowing and knowable. The sixth element of
this worldview consists of ethics and morals, which are based on God’s character. The seventh
element is history which the Christian worldview defines as linear rather than circular. Meaning
that there is a “meaningful” sequence that has a beginning, middle, and end.
Christian Philosophy of Education
It is evident that worldview plays an important role in education. Often shaping the beliefs
and teachings in the school system. As Van Brummelen (2009) states the purpose of educational
establishments is to educate on concepts while developing skills and abilities leaving little to be
desired in terms of moral practices. Therefore, a Christian worldview affirms that it is integral
that the Bible should be the framework of all teachings. Furthermore, all the elements of the
Christian worldview affirm God as the absolute truth and creator of all things. Thusly, education
must then incorporate all his teachings
