V.Objective: Given counting manipulatives and a number card, each student will be able
to count the manipulatives and place the correct number on the card with 4/5 represented
correctly.
VI.Materials: Counting book – read to the students, activity pages – used during
guided and independent work, pencils – used on the activity pages, colors – used with
activity pages, and counting bears – kids will use them to show number on card, number
cards – kids will be given a card and show that number with the bears

VIII. Biblical/ Character Education Principle: Psalm 107:1 Give thanks to the Lord,
for he is good; his faithful love endures forever. (CSB)
I would say: The Bible teaches that God is good and faithful; He blesses us abundantly. Let us
practice our counting by counting our blessings today! Raise your hand to share a way that you
have been blessed you in your life and I will mark a tally on the board. After we have shared a
few blessings, we will pause to count how many we have. I will start us off with one of my
favorite blessings: God has blessed me with my wonderful son!
IX.Procedures:
A.Anticipatory Set: At the beginning of the lesson, I would have students meet at the
carpet and prepare to watch the counting video. I would encourage them to count
along with the video while watching. This gives them a chance to get their wiggles

B.Developmental Activities:
i.Instruction: After the video, while students are still together on the carpet, we
would read a counting book, Monster Counting Book 1 to 20 by Frances Mackay.
While reading we will practice counting the monsters on each page. Once the story
is finished, I will instruct the kids on the next activity, telling them “Before you go

back to your seat, please come get our activity page so that we can do our next
activity together. Once at your seat I want you to get 1 crayon and 1 pencil to have
ready.”
ii.Guided Practice: During our guided practice I will have my copy of the page
projected onto a screen so that each student can see it. The activity page is a “count,
color, trace” paper. Together we will count the pictures, color the items, and then
trace the number next to each set.
iii.Independent Practice: During the independent practice, I will have students work
on a worksheet where they trace a number and then draw a line matching that
number to a set of pictures. While students are doing this, I will have table groups
come to me at a separate table where we will practice counting and representing
numbers with counting bears. I would give them 2-3 numbers and have them show
me, for example “Please count and show me 10 bears. Great! Now can you show
me 14? Wonderful! Now show me zero bears, please. You did a great job!” I would
begin with the students who are struggling more so that they can have some extra
practice before doing the independent work.
X.Closure: In closing the lesson I would tell the students how wonderful they did and
praise the hard work that they put in. Then to help them get some wiggles out before
moving on to our next subject, we would play one more video but this one would be a

XI.Diversity/Differentiation for Exceptionalities:
A.Learning Styles (modalities / multiple intelligences): Auditory – reading the book
and me giving instruction is for the auditory learners, Visual – the book will also help
the visual learners along with the videos, Kinesthetic – the bear manipulatives will
give them something to hold
B.Gifted: While the other students will be getting simple number identification pages
my gifted students will get pages with more of a challenge during the independent
work like sorting the numbers from least to greatest, also during small group we
might work on basic addition and subtraction with the bears.
C.LEP: Having pages with picture instructions or simple instructions will help when
comleting the activity pages.
D.LD, ED, ADD: For behavior issues I plan to have the videos to help them get their
wiggles out, I also plan to make the transition times as clear as possible so the
students are not overwhelmed or confused about what their next task is.
E.Multicultural Connections: I could ask the students to tell me about things they
have counted at home or include pictures of things from their cultures on the activity
pages.
XII.Summative Assessment/Evaluation: Given counting manipulatives and a number
card, each student was able to count the manipulatives and place the correct number on
the card with 4/5 represented correctly.
