Classroom Management Assignment
I currently teach in a PreK-4 classroom, and have been teaching for 7 years. The theme of
our prekindergarten for the 2014-2015 school year is under the sea. Each classroom has chosen a
sea creature name for their classroom. My classroom is Prekindergarten 4A, The Joyful Jellyfish.
My BMP incorporates the jellyfish. On a bulletin board I have a green jellyfish with a smiley
face, a yellow jellyfish with a straight face, and a red jellyfish with a sad face. Each child in the
classroom has a different sea creature, and is placed on the green jellyfish at the beginning of
each day. If a child breaks a classroom promise, they are moved to the yellow jellyfish. If the
child continues to break class promises through the day, they will move to the red jellyfish.
Throughout the day I continue to remind the children that if they begin to show good behavior
and keep our classroom promises, they will have a chance to move back to either the yellow or
green jellyfish. I explain the jellyfish to my class as the green being the happy face jellyfish, the
yellow as the sad jellyfish, and the red being the crying jellyfish. The red is explained as the
crying jellyfish to help the children understand how sad I will be, as well as their parents, and
Jesus if they are on the red jellyfish at the end of the day. If a child ends their day on the red or
“crying” jellyfish, a note is sent home to their parents. The note is a note that explains what
promise or behavior resulted in their child being on the red jellyfish. The note is entitled “Today
and Tomorrow”. After explaining the behavior shown, the notes ends with “Tomorrow can be a
better day”.
I feel a BMP should encourage the children to show good behavior but also show grace.
Before being blessed with my own classroom, I worked as a teacher assistant. I feel this was a
blessing, because I was able to see how other teachers ran their classroom. I was also able to gain
knowledge for how I would like to run my own. I found so many teachers have BMP’s that do
not include chances to encourage good behavior. I feel my BMP encourages good behavior and
second chances, because they are able to earn their way back to green if promises are kept. I feel
this also helps me incorporate Jesus in my classroom as well. How many times do we mess up as
a Christian, and make him “cry” because we were disobedient? He always forgives us, and gives
us a second chance. I feel the classroom should be ran in that way as well. I feel there should be
consequences for disobedience, and the note home to parents is a great way to make the children
accountable for their behaviors. I have enclosed pictures of the BMP I currently have in place in
