REFLECTION: UPPER ELEMENTARY ASSIGNMENT
Lesson Subject: Develop hypothesis as cause-and-effect relations Lesson Grade Level: 3
Reflection Prompts Response
View your Teaching Simulation Video: Upper Elementary Assignment submission, observing
carefully so you can thoroughly address each section.
Launch/Hook/Anticipatory Set
Describe your Launch/Hook/Anticipatory. Was it
effective? Would it gain student interest? Why or
why not? What would you adjust and/or improve in
a future lesson?
I thought my introduction was a fun way to get the
students engaged. They all got an opportunity to feel
the egg and look at it by themselves. They also got the
opportunity to think and answer on their own, and
share ideas with their classmates.
Instruction/Modeling: Delivery of Instruction
Was your instructional delivery clear? Explain. Did
you digress during the lesson? What will you do
differently in a future lesson to ensure clarity of
instruction?
I believe that my delivery was clear, but I would have
made a couple of adjustments. I felt that as the lesson
went on I was repeating some of the information which
may confuse some of the students. Next time I will
make a list of areas I want to discuss and put them in
order that way I do not leave anything out or repeat
myself.
Instruction/Modeling: Engagement
Reflect on your vocal delivery (volume, tone, and
inflection), enthusiasm, positive body language, and
eye contact. Which of these were strengths? Were
any a weakness? What will you focus on in future
lessons to improve engagement?
My vocal tone is typically pretty encouraging and
enthusiastic. I moved around some in the video to help
keep the attention going and to explain certain
ideas. My strength would be I kept eye contact with the
students. My weakness would using some filler words
and struggling with what to do with my hands.
Instruction/Modeling: Preparation
Were you prepared for the lesson? Did you have all
materials/equipment ready? Did you notice any time
taken away from the lesson in which you had to
gather materials? In the future, will you make any
adjustments based on what you observed?
I felt prepared for the lesson. I had the materials ready
and some sticky notes prepared with notes on them. I
did not notice any time that was taken away for me to
gather materials. In the future, I would pause for a
second and recollect some of the material to ensure I
am teaching it the way I want to.
Instruction/Modeling: Academic Language
List a few examples of academic
language/vocabulary you used in the lesson (terms
associated with the subject/topic you were teaching).
Did you repeat these words/terms during the lesson?
If yes, do you think this repetition would have been
meaningful for students? If no, how could you
improve in this area?
Osmosis, hypothesis,semi-permeable, egg, cause and
effect
I repreated these words a few times
throughout the lesson. I believe they were
necessary as they were terms explaining how
the science project work and how they played
a part in forming the hypothesis.

Comparing Your Simulation Videos
In at least 150 words, address the following:
You’ve now reviewed both of your simulation
video submissions: Teaching Simulation Video:
Lower Elementary Assignment and Teaching
Simulation Video: Upper Elementary
Assignment. Discuss what you noticed after
reviewing both videos. For example: Do you have
areas of personal growth? Do you have areas for
continued growth? Do you have questions about
delivering a lesson based on this experience? The
goal is to take time to reflect meaningfully on the
process of delivering two simulation lessons.
I have found growth overall after teaching these lessons. To be
more specific, I seem to be more comfortable with lower
elementary, but that is also the grade area that I would like to
teach one day. However, I found myself to be less nervous when
teaching the second lesson. The feedback from the first lesson
helped me calm my nerves and show me I was capable of
delivering a good lesson. I payed more attention to avoiding
filler words and just having fun with the lesson. Making sticky
notes and adding information to the white board, helped my
lesson planning and setup go much more smoothly. My hope is
that the more I practice and prepare the better and more
comfortbale I will get with teaching these important lessons in
the future.I want to strive to continually grow in finding new
ideas that makes learning fun for my students. I believe the egg
experiement was extremely engaging and is something that the
students can contine studying even outside of class.
Considering Co-Teaching
In at least 150 words, address the following:
Based on your review of the two Learn items
titled Watch: Teacher Collaboration:
Spreading Best Practices School-Wide and
Watch: Co-Teaching Top Ten Tips Video,
consider how the delivery of your instruction
would change if you were in a co-teaching
situation. Feel free to focus your thoughts on one
of your simulation lessons or both—just be sure
to consider and describe how the delivery would
change.
After watching the videos of this module, I learned so much
about co-teaching and how it can be a valuable assest to the
students but also to the teachers. One thing I would change first
is I would split the students up in smaller groups in order to
their assignment. Another part I would change is the planning
and delivery of my lesson. I would ask my co-teacher what
tactics he or she would use in order to make my delivery more
understandable. Having a special education teacher work with
me would be extremely helpful and would allow the students to
receive support and material that is more detailed to their
learning ability. I would prepare the information and how I can
connect it with the state standards and allow my co-teacher to
give me ideas on the delivery method that makes it easily
understandable for the students.Hopefully with the help of my
co-teacher we would be able to create material that is detailed
and clear to all of the students.
