What does this teaching method do?
Definition quoted from a source:
Since each child is different and they have
different levels of learning and have
educational needs and backgrounds. It is a
teaching method to tailor towards each
student’s needs. Through testing and
observations teachers can find out the
areas that students need the most help in
and in what ways they can tailor their
lesson plans to help them.
Definition: “Differentiated learning in this audit
referred to the ways in which teachers in their
day-to-day teaching addressed the needs of all
their individual students, monitored their
progress, identified their specific learning
needs and addressed these needs in their
practice (Masters,$Citation 2010 , p. 14)” (p.$334).

What do I need to know about this skill/method?
Differentiated Instruction means different things to people however it is more than just teaching classes in different ways or creating
different lesson plans and curriculums for each student. It is getting to know your students well and learning what they need and
wants are.
Procedure:
When using differentiated instruction, you must meet each standard to
make sure that each child gets the same level of education and attention
that they deserve. Csillag (2016) described the advantages of having
Differentiated instruction……
-By providing them with multiple options and materials to help them
EDSP 524
learn more.
-Use different teaching methods and strategies on each child.
-Use both reading and digital formats.
-Using teaching methods that caters to all levels of learning from the
lowest IQ to the highest.
That is why it is so important that teachers work with the students to
have a common goal.
Strengths: Weaknesses:
Many educators love teacher differentiation because
it not only keeps the students focused on class but
also, they become more engaged and builds up their
confidence and academics as well.
Differentiation takes up too much time. Sometimes it does
not work for every student who has a learning disability.
The problem is that it is impossible to have a different
plan for each child in the classroom because everyone
learns differently. As an educator it is hard to provide
different styles of teaching to a whole class of students.
Why did I choose this strategy? Where did I encounter this strategy?
I chose this strategy because it is interesting but also it
seems like a good teaching strategy to help students
learn who are struggling and have a learning disability.
I encountered this strategy when I was a teaching assistant at
an elementary school. The English teacher gave students a book
to read during reading time. Each student had a book that was
picked for their reading level. The teacher made sure that
although the students read on different levels they were still
included in the class, and no one felt alone.

Section 4: Analysis and Implementation
In this section, describe how you would utilize this teaching method in your classroom.
Differentiation method not only benefits the students, but it also helps the educators as well. Csillag (2016) believes that Differentiation
in the classroom is beneficial by
-Creating lesson plans in the classroom to peak students focus and interest.
-Provide feedback off different assignments help students improve in areas that they need the most help.
-Creating a safe learning environment is crucial to a student’s success in the classrooms.
-Using technology help students stay engage with the different learning apps like for example Dream box which helps them practice
and improve their knowledge in the classroom.
-When it is time for class discussion encourage the students to collaborate.
-It allows the teacher to choose what is best for their students in the classroom. Differentiation allows teachers to also focus on the
much-needed areas that students need to work on to improve their academics.
-It also allows the students to feel inclusive in the classroom and not feel like they are not a part of the class.

Every child is different, and each child learns differently. Educators must choose what teaching strategies or learning
style that is right for their student. Differentiation instruction allows the teacher more freedom to choose the right
teaching strategy for their students. By doing this it will help the students be more successful in the classroom.

Definition quoted from a source:
It is an instructional strategy and an
educational approach that allows small
groups of students to work together to
help with their social and communication
skills in a classroom setting.
Definition: Cooperative Learning is a teaching
strategy it “involves groups of students working
to complete a common task. It is a rich
educational strategy because it affords elaborate
student interactions. The richness makes
cooperative learning a complex construct to
study. Given it’s complexity, researchers have
attempted to specify its methods and to control
it's implementation.” (p. 339)

Section 2: Information
What do I need to know about this skill/method?
Cooperative learning is probably the easiest strategy to implement in the classroom because all it takes is the willingness to work in
groups together for a common goal. Having the students work together also gives them a voice and good communication and social
skills.
Procedure:
EDSP 524
Group the students together and put them in small groups so they can
work together. If they have any questions or problems, they can ask their
peers for help. This strategy will also help the other students who are
falling behind in school.
Strengths: Weaknesses:
This strategy helps students with both social and
communication skills. But also showing them how to
collaborate with each other at the same time.
Some students tend to not do well in groups so they might
not voice their opinion on whether they understand the
material or not.
Why did I choose this strategy? Where did I encounter this strategy?
I chose this strategy because I think it is the best way
for students to not only work together but also show
what area that they need the most help in.
I encountered this strategy when I was a teacher assistant
this is an excellent way for teachers to see if the students
understand the class material that was given to them.

Section 4: Analysis and Implementation
In this section, describe how you would utilize this teaching method in your classroom.
Since I already work with students with learning disabilities. On the days that I assign projects I will put the
students in groups Each group will discuss their ideas with each other and come up with a plan to present to the
class. After they do their presentations then have the students grade each other on how well they did with their
presentations. That is what cooperative learning is about which is student’s working together for a common
goal. “Cooperative learning4involves students working together in small groups to accomplish shared goals. It is
widely recognized as a teaching strategy that promotes socialization and learning among students from
kindergarten through college and across different subject areas (Cohen, 1994). Cooperative learning has been
used successfully to promote reading and writing achievements among middle school students (Stevens, 2003),
understanding in high school science classes (Foley & O'Donnell, 2002), and problem solving in mathematics
(Sahlberg & Berry, 2002), to name just a few”.4(Gillies, (2007).

Section 2: Information
What do I need to know about this skill/method?
It is an easy approach, but it is also flexible because it allows the educators to tailor their lesson plans or curriculums to meet their
interests and abilities. The students can also develop their own questions and explore and find the answers that they seek. In which
making it interesting for the students to discover the solutions to the unanswered questions.
Procedure:
Blessinger, (2019) believed that the idea is to start with a question, by
asking the question it will allow the students to think more about the
topic of discussion and encourage them to ask their own questions. It
EDSP 524
allows them to explore by giving them the window to research on their
topic it will make them better to understand and encourage class
discussion. After getting their ideas discuss it with their peers. Then
providing the resources will broaden their critical thinking and
understanding by using online learning platforms. Then summarize and
come together as a class and share what they have learned in the
learning process.
Strengths: Weaknesses:
With inquiry-based learning, students can think more
critically, improve their problem-solving skills, are
more creative, improve on their communication skills,
connects learning to the real world but at the same
time encourages and engages students learning.
Inquiry based learning can become overwhelming to an
already overworked teacher. It is also time consuming,
and it moves at a slow pace and needs a lot of time to
implement. Since the school is on a set curriculum and
lesson plan it is difficult to use to make sure that the
students are getting all the help and all their questions
answered in a timely fashion.
Why did I choose this strategy? Where did I encounter this strategy?
I like this strategy because I believe that it will help
students become better thinkers in the classroom.
Asking questions and trying to find the answer to
them is exciting. This teaching strategy will be
beneficial to all classrooms and educators.
I implemented this strategy when I was a teacher
assistant, and my class was doing a project on different
soil types on plant growth. The students collected their
soil samples and plants and compiled their results and
present it to the class. Whatever their final observations
were or any other questions that needed answered was all
discussed at the end of the project.

Section 4: Analysis and Implementation
In this section, describe how you would utilize this teaching method in your classroom.
To make sure that Inquiry Based Learning is used in my classroom. When presenting class projects, and after discussing the concepts,
I will have the students come up with their own questions that they may have about the assignment. Then have them keep whatever
questions that they might have until the project is done. After the project is finished the students should be able to answer the
questions but also to gather all the information that is needed. By the students exploring and finding the information themselves
they become more excited when they try to find their own answers to their questions. After they finish exploring and finding their
answers and guiding their process. Then have them discuss their answers in a class or group discussion that will keep them engage
not only on the project but the class as well. This will help them not only to remember but also to learn the concepts that were
taught.
Word Count_158____ /150
How can I remember?
Inquiry-based learning is easy to learn because it is mostly about asking questions and seeking the answer, but it also
triggers students’ minds and keeps them engaged in finding the answer. It greatly benefits the teacher because it helps
keep the students engaged in learning.

What do I need to know about this skill/method?
Interdisciplinary Teaching involves multiple disciplines working together to help develop knowledge, problem solving skills, self-
confidence. Putting it all together and integrating it into one lesson plan which makes it more interesting and engaging to students.
Interdisciplinary teaching combines learning and various disciplines together to help students solve problems and issues. It is unique
because it allows students to think differently and give them more creativity in the learning process.
Procedure:
EDSP 524
O’Brien (2023) describes Interdisciplinary teaching strategies that can
help you in the classroom.
-Identify a common goal/theme.
-Measuring outcomes through assessments.
-Choose appropriate methods and activities to help with their creativity
and critical thinking.
-Have open dialogue and collaboration with students.
Strengths: Weaknesses:
Interdisciplinary teaching helps students to be better
critical thinker but also enhance their communication
and social skills and understanding across all
disciplines.
The major issue is it takes too many times to implement
and integrate into the curriculum.
Why did I choose this strategy? Where did I encounter this strategy?
I chose this strategy because I thought that it was a
unique approach to learn about the integration of
various disciplines which in my opinion will help
students become better critical thinkers and do better
in science, engineering, arts, technology, and math.
I encountered this strategy when I was trying to make a
lesson plan for my 2nd grade class. Instead of teaching one
subject at a time. I decided to combine all the subjects
together, math, science, reading into one assignment and
the students loved it and are more engaged in the
classroom.

EDSP 524
Section 4: Analysis and Implementation
In this section, describe how you would utilize this teaching method in your classroom.
Having an integration plan is necessary for an educator. It is just a lot more easier and stress free if the teacher can incorporate their
lesson plan into one experience or one big plan. That is why interdisciplinary teaching is so useful because it combines various
disciplines into one discipline. Then use the knowledge from a different discipline to help their analysis and a solution. With
interdisciplinary teaching, it allows the student to not only use critical thinking but observing and promoting collaboration. But also,
when the students share their thoughts, ideas, and provide feedback then finally have them evaluate themselves and see how they
scored themselves. Students tend to do better if they feel that their voices are being heard especially when it comes to using a new
teaching strategy like interdisciplinary teaching. As an educator in retrospect, I think that having interdisciplinary teaching as apart of
the lesson plan would be a great benefit to the students because instead of having separate subjects, they now have one subject that
involves all the various subjects. That is not only useful, but it is essential to making sure that students are getting a full
understanding of the material as well.
Word Count__200___ /150
How can I remember?
Interdisciplinary is relatively easy to remember because it means the joining of various disciplines. By doing these things
it become clearer and easier to understand. Interdisciplinary is essential to students because it helps to think critically
and gives them more self-confidence in their work.

Section 2: Information
What do I need to know about this skill/method?
Conceptual Understanding is vital to a student to understanding of math. For students to understand math concepts they need to
know the process and steps to know how the math concepts and operations work together.
Procedure:
What is so unique about Conceptual Understanding is that students can
use and know the concepts and principles without having a deep
understanding of what conceptual understanding is. The understanding
can apply to solving problems and concepts. It is designed to help and aid
the understanding of concepts and problems that students may find
difficult. A comprehension of math concepts, operations, and relates
EDSP 524
through procedural fluency (Stern et al., 2017). This is the procedure use
to solve math problems and understand the concepts too.
Strengths: Weaknesses:
Conceptual Understanding has many benefits one of
them is that it strives a person understanding of the
concepts other than just memorization. Conceptual
Understanding is not only flexible, but it leaves room
for improvement if needed.
It is time consuming it takes more time and effort to
obtain the information that is needed then in traditional
strategies and methods.
Why did I choose this strategy? Where did I encounter this strategy?
I choose this strategy because I have always struggled
with math and its concepts in general all my life. It is
interesting to finally see a strategy that will help them
better to solve math problems but also understand
the concepts too.
I never heard of Conceptual Understanding until I taught
math. When doing math problems and solving problems I
try to look at the bigger picture by using Conceptual
Understanding of math to help me solve the problem and
get the answer that is needed.
Section 3: Visual, Graphic Organizer or Concept Map

EDSP 524
Section 4: Analysis and Implementation
In this section, describe how you would utilize this teaching method in your classroom.
I personally, think that every educator especially in math wants their students to be able to not only learn the facts and concepts of
the math problems but also understand and perform the computations too. I think that the best way to accomplish this is to have
each student show how they got the answer and how accurate they think their answer is. If they are having problems showing and
understanding how they got the answer than let them discuss how they got the wrong answer by using fractions, and mixed
numbers. Students can work in small groups to discuss their discoveries and help one another find where they make their mistakes.
Conceptual Understanding should be used in every classroom because it not only gives the students more confidence, but it
motivates them to learn more and seek the correct answers. So many students have problems with learning and understanding math
it is nice to know that with the help of Conceptual Understanding students have a chance at understanding the concepts.

classroom especially during discussions when they are
engaged in activities with each other.
I used this strategy when I am teaching my classes. It is
great to use during class discussions and a great way to
engage students and share their thoughts and ideas.

Active Learning is unique teaching strategy that most teachers are using in their classrooms to keep their students engage with
material to help with their learning experience instead of through lecture or instruction. Education can introduce active learning
through class discussions by having them share their opinions and thoughts on what they have learned. Encouraging them to think
and solve their problems is the key to active listening. The most effective way to help students build their active listening techniques
is to have them be in more small groups. But also have them to collaborate and discuss the topic as well. Then observe the groups
and see what their thinking and facial expressions means. To make sure that they are listening ask questions or put them on the
board to start class discussions. This will help them become better listeners. When students become better listeners than they tend
to do better academically and in life generally.

I will make it mandatory in my classes to do an active learning strategy a week by doing a lot more group work and hold
class discussions so they can engage with their peers.

Section 2: Information
What do I need to know about this skill/method?
Summative Assessments are used to evaluate a student’s learning performance but also to see how much they have learned so far.
Procedure:
The educator will present the lesson plan and activities, projects during
that semester. At the end of the course or semester an assessment will
be given to all the students to see where they are academically in the
class.
EDSP 524
Strengths: Weaknesses:
There are few advantages to Summative Assessments
-It tells the educators if the students know and are
learning the material.
-It also tells the educator just how prepared the
students are for the next grade level and where they
need the most help in (Sharman, 2015).
The disadvantages
-It messes up a student’s confidence and self-esteem.
-It causes the students to feel anxiety for fear that they
might do that well on their testing.
Why did I choose this strategy? Where did I encounter this strategy?
I have given a Summative Assessment on many
occasions to my students. I really do think that it is
beneficial for teachers to know whether their students
are understanding the material that they are being
taught.
Right now, we currently giving students STAR testing as
apart of finding out what they have learned up to this
point in reading, math, and science.

Since a lot of these assessments are utilized by the state to test students on how much they have learned it is essential they are
given to show just how much knowledge they have learned or not. I live in SC, and we are currently doing STAR testing for grades 1-
12 to see where each student stands academically in their school, and state and whether they are meeting the state level standards.
They are generally given 3 times out of the year to test their reading, math, and science. Based on how many times it is given out of
the year the students should show progression in their academics and grades. If they show no improvement in their grades or
academics than of course they need more help in the areas that they are failing in. The assessments are used to give a heads up to
the educators on what areas they are doing good in and the ones they are not meeting the standards that are desired. These
assessments are essential to students’ success in academics.

What do I need to know about this skill/method?
Formative assessments are actually very helpful because it lets educators, students, and parents know where they stand at with
learning the new material but also in what areas they need the most help in to improve their understanding.
Procedure:
The procedure for any formative assessments is to give the students a
practice tests. After the student completes the practice tests then the
educator will know in what areas they need the most help.
Strengths: Weaknesses:
EDSP 524
The educator gets to see what student is lacking or
need help in the areas that they are doing poorly in so
they can help them improve in their academics.
The formative assessment must be given if not then the
educators will not know how to help the students
academically.
Why did I choose this strategy? Where did I encounter this strategy?
I chose this strategy because it is what educators and
schools use during the school year to determine how
much help the students may need.
I encountered this strategy in my school as an educator or
administer formative assessments to monitor a student’s
growth academically.

EDSP 524
Section 4: Analysis and Implementation
In this section, describe how you would utilize this teaching method in your classroom.
I utilize Formative Assessments yearly. It is the only way that educators can keep track of their students on how well they understand
the material that was given to them. It also shows what areas that they need the most help in. In my school district we do actual
practice tests before we give the students formative assessments to see where they need the most help in before they take the
actual tests. STAR testing is the formative assessment that my district uses. It tests students on math, reading, and science.
Formative assessments are beneficial from an educational standpoint that teachers use formative testing because students tend to
do better on assessments when they get the much-needed help that they need. A lot of the time educators don’t know how to help
their students if they don’t know what they may need help with. That is why it is important that educators use assessments because
it will give teachers a heads up to how well their students are doing.

What do I need to know about this skill/method?
Exit tickets can consist of any questions it does not necessarily has to be about the lesson plan. The teacher can ask how was their
day? Did you learn anything new today?
Procedure:
Before class ends for that day, the teacher can create an exit ticket for
the class, have the students write the questions and then have them
answer it and turn it in at the end of class.
Strengths: Weaknesses:
Exit tickets are a great way for educators to see how
their students feel about the lesson and the class in
general. It provides instructors with the feedback that
they need to help improve their classes.
Exit tickets are given too late after assessments are given
and it sometimes don’t give an accurate picture of how
students are really feeling.

A lot of teachers are now using exit tickets in the class. It is an excellent source to help educators get feedback on how they think and
what they have learned by the end of the class. I know that in my class I like to give out exit tickets at the beginning of each class just
to get a vibe of the class and what they are thinking at that time. Then at the end of class give out another exit ticket before the
students leave to see how much they have learned and whether they have any questions about the lesson plan that day. This is also
a great time for the students to ask questions if they have any and voice their opinions and how it can be better. It also helps
teachers be better educators. I will let the student write their responses on a piece of paper. Then as they leave put their responses
in a box on my desk and I can read them after they leave for the day.

having problems with using manipulatives, then I will do another review on the lesson plan. If the students need extra help, I will put
them into small groups and then have them work together until they get the answer. Manipulatives also gives students the
confidence to learn math. I know when I was in elementary, I had problems with math and just couldn’t get the concepts. So, my
teacher assigned me extra help after class by showing me how to use manipulatives to help me get the correct answer. In my opinion
every teacher should use manipulatives in their class it will be so much easier on both the students and the teacher.

are actively engaged with learning objectives. The
implementation of technology also creates pathways for
differentiated instruction to meet the unique needs of students
as individual learners within a broader classroom climate”.

Section 2: Information
What do I need to know about this skill/method?
Technology is not only innovative but is the glue to the future. Without its life would be more difficult than what it is today.
Technology keeps us up to date with new ideas and new inventions.
EDSP 524
Procedure:
Technology comes in many forms even today through video games,
YouTube, and quizzes on Kahoot. As an educator it is best to use
technology in the classrooms to keep our students engaged. Technology
is the way to keep them ready and prepared for the future. If I want to
teach a math lesson, I just figure out what source of technology that I
want to use for the lesson plan that day. Then present it to the class and
have them work on examples through educational apps like Dream Box,
and Kahoot!
Strengths: Weaknesses:
Technology keeps students engaged and interested in
the lesson plan. It also piques students’ interests and
then they will want to learn more.
Some students might have a hard time at first
understanding how to use technology and might need
guided practice for help. Students also can feel a lot of
anxiety and confusion sometimes when using technology
if they don’t get it at first.
Reference: Blikstad-Balas & Klette,(2020)
Why did I choose this strategy? Where did I encounter this strategy?
Technology is used daily in my classroom and at
home.
I encounter technology at school and at home daily.

Technology in the Classroom
-It assists teachers with time consuming.
-Studies show an increase in student engagement with the use of technology.
-Tools such as Google Docs can be used for student collaboration.
-Communication between teachers and student improved with teaching.
EDSP 524
-Resources such as video, animations and simulations can enhance learning.
Section 4: Analysis and Implementation
In this section, describe how you would utilize this teaching method in your classroom.
Since the start of Covid-19 a lot of the students have now pushed towards the use of technology. Since a lot of the schools now have
virtual programs, they have new and innovative ways to keep the kids interested and engaged both at home and at school. One of
the programs that we are now using in my home state of SC for students who need help with math is the app Dream Box which I love
EDSP 524
using. It allows the students to practice math in the areas they need the most help in but also leave room for interaction as well with
their peers. Since it is natural that all students do not like to learn math, it is vital that they have a great source of technology to use
in the class and at home. In my class my students like to play Kahoot, and Dream Box so they can review all the materials that they
have done in the class that week.

How can I remember?
Technology is used every single day no matter if we are on the computer, video chats, using a smartphone, etc.
Technology is officially a part of our DNA whether we like it or not.

Section 2: Information
What do I need to know about this skill/method?
Visualization is a teaching strategy tool to help students who can only learn through visual presentation and effects and who are
visual learners.
Procedure:
To use visualization in the classroom teachers, need to use videos,
pictures, or any visual aids to capture the student’s attention.
Strengths: Weaknesses:
Visualization is the most beneficial to the students
who can only learn through visuals.
Not all students are visual learners and so some students
might like the instructor to lecture and then write notes.
EDSP 524
Why did I choose this strategy? Where did I encounter this strategy?
I like anything that is a visual because it is a great way
to learn anything especially math in my opinion.
As a teacher, I use visuals throughout my class to help my
students stay focus and engaged.

Section 4: Analysis and Implementation
In this section, describe how you would utilize this teaching method in your classroom.
In my classroom I try to use visuals as much as possible to keep my students engaged. As an educator who loves visuals too and love
to use them in her classroom. Visuals are important because it helps students learn by seeing pictures, videos, or any visual aids. I
use manipulatives in my classroom for math and I think that they are the most wonderful teaching strategies that you can ever use
as an educator. When watching a video for math with animation it really gets their attention and makes it more interesting. The use
of graphic organizers is just an excellent source to keep the students interested in math and the lesson plan. Visuals are beneficial to
students because it helps them learn faster and retain the information that they have already learned. In my opinion visuals are
necessary in all classrooms. Students not only feel more confident when they see visuals, but they also know that it is a great way to
keep them interested in the lesson plan.

Section 2: Information
What do I need to know about this skill/method?
With Peer Learning students can teach and offer feedback to their peers.
Procedure:
When students use peer teaching, they are more open to help each other
and give feedback to one another if needed.
EDSP 524
Strengths: Weaknesses:
Peer teaching gives students more confidence and
guidance in the classroom when teaching one
another.
Some students learn best when they work independently
in the class then rather peer to peer teaching.
Why did I choose this strategy? Where did I encounter this strategy?
I chose this strategy because it is unique but also, I
think it would be most beneficial to the students to
help them learn in the classroom.
I encountered this strategy while I was a teacher’s
assistant, and I had the students paired with another
student to do peer learning on a math assignment.

Section 4: Analysis and Implementation
In this section, describe how you would utilize this teaching method in your classroom.
Peer teaching is great in the classroom especially when the students are working on a project together or in groups. I will have
students go into groups and work together and discuss the lesson that was taught for that week. Each group will be the instructor for
the day, and they will act like the teacher for that class period and teach each other the lesson plan. After the student’s finish
presenting then I will make sure that all the students understand what they have learned for that unit. At the same time this will help

me with the students who don’t understand and who is still struggling with learning math and concepts By the time the math unit is
over with every student would have the chance to participate in class discussion, review, and peer teaching. Peer teaching will help
them build their confidence and become better students and public speakers.
Word Count_152____ /150
How can I remember?
I remember peer teaching because when I was in school, we had to help each other when we didn’t understand the
lesson. I have my students do the same thing if there is a student in my class who can help their peers then let them do
it. Students tend to learn better from their peers.
