Using the STAR sheets that follow the cases, answer each case study question in the unit in the

Level A: Case 1
1. Define each strategy:
a. Event Recording: Documentation of how often a behavior occurs.
b. Interval Recording: An occurrence of a behavior is recorded at predetermined
intervals. Predetermined intervals are used to determine whether or not behavior
occurred.
2. Describe why each strategy is an appropriate way to measure Mark’s disruptive
comments.
By recording Mark's disruptive statements, an observer can keep track of how often Mark is
disruptive. A time interval recording would be helpful in determining how often Mark makes
disruptive comments.
Level A: Case 2
1. Define each strategy.
a. Duration Recording: Recording how long a student engages in a targeted
behavior.
b. Interval Recording: Documenting whether a behavior occurred during a period
of time.
c. Latency Recording: Measuring and documenting the time it takes for a person to
respond.
2. Describe why each strategy is or is not appropriate to measure Theresa’s out-of-seat
behavior.
Theresa's innate curiosity seamlessly complements the tape's recording duration,
allowing Ms. Lowe to track Theresa's standing periods discreetly. Ms. Lowe has noticed
that Theresa's behavior remains constant, making interval monitoring less appropriate.
Instead, Theresa's inquisitiveness could be quite advantageous for gathering latency
data, aiding Ms. Lowe in uncovering the motivations behind Theresa's movements, all
while remaining inconspicuous.

3. Describe why each strategy is or is not appropriate to measure Theresa’s
procrastinating behavior.
A duration recorder could be used to capture how many times and how long Theresa
procrastinated for. If Theresa procrastinated for a certain amount of time, interval
recording would help her figure out how often she procrastinated. Through latency
recording, Theresa could measure her response time after receiving the directions.
