INSTRUCTIONS AND INFORMATION
The book that was chosen was How to Eat Fried
Worms by Thomas Rockwell. This book teaches
valuable morals and standards according to peer
pressure and how to deal with it. It provides examples
of how students use peer pressure into affecting their
overall stature.

Activity 1: The first activity will heavily
involve reading. The students will begin reading
the book to understand its contents. This will
ensure they learn the story elements. Once the
reading is finished, a classroom discussion will
commence to improve comprehension skills
and critical thinking skills.
Activity 2: The second activity will focus on
vocabulary that is specific to the story. Students
will be given a list of vocabulary words to
search within the book. They will then use
context clues to identify what the definition of
the words may be.
Activity 3: The final activity will focus on
inferencing and drawing conclusions about the
ending of the book. They will use personal
experiences and/or critical thinking to

moral of the story is trying to teach its readers.
In the case of students who may struggle in
reading the book, there will be differentiated
text to provide an easier read, audio versions of
the book, and the teacher will also provide read-
aloud sessions.
Students will be grouped up with their peers to
improve collaboration and reading
comprehension.
Specific assignments, with guides, will be
provided to the students.
Audio books are provided on teacher-allowed
sites to improve overall reading levels.
If the book has a film attached to it, then
showing the film will increase their
comprehensive skills in understanding the
content they have read.
Assessments will be given on a weekly basis to
ensure they understand the material and content
Assessments will include simple questions
about the book or defining vocabulary
Students are provided with a reading block that
consists of one hour and 30 minutes. This time will
be broken up into smaller sessions to include:
30 minute read-aloud/instructions
15 minute independent reading
15 minute group discussion about the book
30 minutes whole group working on
