Describe 3 different strategies the teacher used to facilitate student learning. Explain why each
process was effective or ineffective.
In the lesson, the teacher asked the students to whisper the answer in their hand, release – this
helps students not to shout out the answer, then everyone answered together. When the students
knew the answer, they would whisper in their hand and then shake their hand in the air showing
they were ready. I enjoy it when students do a Picture walk – this allows them to get an idea of
what the story will be about. They then discussed each page, and the teacher encouraged each
answer. They then worked together and discussed what they were going to be doing. When
reading the story together as a class – He had them use different voices, gestures, and a finger
pointer to guide them with reading.
If you were teaching this lesson, what would you do differently?
I would do something similar when teaching this lesson, involving each student in the different
areas of their work. Maintain classroom management and keep it fun. I made each student feel
that they were a part of what was happening, reminding them of what had been discussed
previously and what was happening. Depending on the students, I would also have them take
turns reading. I also liked how he incorporated the different voices and gestures in the reading. I
do think it. I would also incorporate technology and show some videos of the then and now. I
believe it distracted the different people in the room, making comments and taking attention
away from what was being taught.
Identify a scripture that aligns with the teaching strategies used in this lesson.
Deuteronomy 32:7 Remember the days of old; consider the years of many generations; ask your
father, and he will show you, your elders, and they will tell you. (ESV)
I believe that scripture works well because we never want to forget the past, and it is best to have
familiar stories to help us connect with what went on and then have a way to share with future
generations. In the lesson, I liked how the teacher had books of things from the past as well as
items of today. This allows the students to relate and go more in-depth with their learning.
