Biblical Worldview
For most of the world’s existence there have been three main belief systems known as the
Abrahamic Religions. These three main schools of religious thought are Judaism, Islam, and
Christianity. The reason they are called, “Abrahamic” is due to the fact it is believed these
religions all came from the sons of Abraham who was a biblical patriarch. Although some of the
beliefs between the three are similar, they also vary quite greatly. The most dominant of the three
however, is Christianity. There are few (if any) places in the world that do not contain people
who subscribe to some form of Christian theology or doctrine. Those who believe in and follow
Christianity have their own take on how they view the world, how it impacts their daily life, and
on how they view education.
What truly is a Biblical worldview? It mainly deals with how Christians see the world.
They believe that God sent His only son Jesus to die for the sins of the world (John 3:16). If one
does not acknowledge this act of love by God, then their life will end at death. However,
Christians believe this world to be their temporary home in which they are merely passing
through. One day when a Christian dies, they will spend eternity with God the Father in heaven.
This impacts their daily lives because they do not want to hurt their chances of entering heaven
by sinning. Christians must view things within the world they live through a Biblical lens
allowing them to know right from wrong.
The culture Christians are living in during modern times continues to become more
worldly and go against what the Bible has to say. One way they can hope to keep a Biblical
world view and instill it into their children is by, “…Diligently learning, applying and trusting
God’s truths in every area of [their] lives — whether it’s watching a movie, communicating with
[their] spouses, raising [their] children or working at the office — [they] can begin to develop a
deep comprehensive faith that will stand against the unrelenting tide of our culture’s nonbiblical
ideas[ CITATION DEL06 \l 1033 ].” If a person does not fully comprehend what the Bible has to
say about the world and its everchanging culture, then their faith can easily be shaken.
Everyone tends to possess some form of a world view whether they realize this or not.
Some may think that their time on earth is all they have and how they live in this life will not
affect their afterlife (if there is one). This ideology is now very prevalent in modern day society.
People no longer hold to biblical truths as facts and the reason for human existence[ CITATION
Isr23 \l 1033 ]. In a biblical worldview we are all placed on the earth for a reason, but our
ultimate purpose is to glorify God with our actions, lives, and words. Christians also believe that
they are given the mission to spread the “Good News” and plan of salvation to anyone who will
hear it. They also view the world as being created by God along with everything else that exists
(Gen.1:1). Furthermore, everything is also held together by Him (Col. 1:17).
How does a biblical worldview impact the realm of education? Just like any other area of
life, education should affirm a Christian worldview. Teachers/educators should follow a biblical
based curriculum that teaches a Christian child’s purpose, upholds Biblical values, and teaches
creation. If a teacher emphasizes the importance of math and science but does not teach the
Scripture then how much good are they truly accomplishing. As the bible teaches in Matthew
16:26, “For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” The
whole point of teaching is to make sure children not only have the tools to succeed in this life but
also make it into the next (their eternal life):
Teaching from a biblical worldview is not just increasing a child’s knowledge of biblical
facts, but it is the complete immersion into understanding that all subjects point directly
to our loving God, who desires to have a personal relationship with each one of
us[ CITATION Jim23 \l 1033 ].
Teachers should and must affirm that all subjects actually prove the existence of a divine creator.
Students are often eager and excited to learn new concepts. Children are not born doubting the
existence of God, but learn that from the environment they are in. People are constantly pushing
nonbiblical concepts on young impressionable minds, which is why Christian educators need a
heavy Bible based learning setting for their students. The world will only create doubt and use
every method available to disprove the existence of God whether it be through school, movies,
music or art[ CITATION Joh07 \l 1033 ].
Due to a lack of proper Bible based learning in public schools, many parents of Christian
children have opted for different learning methods and environments. Some have chosen the path
of private Christian schools while others have chosen to homeschool. Each option allows for a
parent to immerse their child in an educational environment that will uphold a Christian
worldview rather than a secular one. Usually by the time a child is a teenager, they have
developed their own worldview. This will shape how they live their adult years and whether they
spend them serving God or choosing a different path. One would not start teaching a child to
walk when they are 17 because it is seemingly “too late.” Likewise, a parent or teacher should
not wait until a child is old to try and instill a Biblical worldview. The Bible tells those in
authority over a child to “Train up a child in the way he should go for even when he is old, he
will not depart from it (Proverbs 22:6).”
In conclusion, everyone holds some form of worldview whether they realize it or not. For
Christians, this worldview is that Jesus created all that exists and our purpose on earth is to
glorify Him that one day we may spend eternity with Him. Having a biblical worldview as a
believer is rather important, so we do not lose focus on the truth of His word. This becomes
harder in the ever-changing environment of today that no longer upholds God’s word as truth and
the ultimate authority for their lives. Without the divine knowledge of thus truth, people would
not be able to tell right from wrong. God is not a God of confusion which is why we live in
confused and lost world (because they do not listen to His words or commandments). God states
that those who love Him will follow Him. Additionally, education is an important aspect of
society and if the Bible is not taught to the young, curious, and impressionable minds, then
something else will take its place. Teachers should note the significance of making their
curriculum point to a Biblical worldview and not against it. God created math, science, and all
subjects to point to Him. Teachers are doing their students a disservice when they do not show
them why we are here on this earth, and how life after death truly does matter.
