Leanadro vs. North Carolina discussion
It is in cases like this, it makes me wish that the U.S. Supreme court could help equalize
the fight that exists in individual states. Why should children in North Carolina have to fight for
a “basic education” while the courts in other states like Wyoming expect a “high-quality”
education? In Wyoming, the Supreme Court stated that education was more than a fundamental
right. Education is also “a paramount priority over all other considerations.” The court ordered
the State of Wyoming to determine the price of high-quality education for all students of the
state, to completely fund public schools to fit this defined quality (Campbell v. State, 1995). It
doesn’t sit right with me that the Federal Government has the Every Student Succeeds Act is the
nation’s national education law and a longstanding commitment to equal opportunity for all
students (U.S. Department of Education [USDOE], 2022), yet there are individual school
districts fighting in state courts for equitable distribution of funds. If the federal government
truly wanted to ensure that all children in our country were receiving an equitable education then
they would supplement state funding to ensure that the per-pupil funding was equal and adequate
