DSMN 610
RESEARCH PAPER OVERVIEW
You are required to write a research paper on a topic related to family discipleship. Many of the
lessons in this course will suggest areas in which you may want to do additional study, and these
areas are excellent for research papers. The paper will have 3 parts as submitted as separate
assignments: the Research Paper – Topic Selection and Thesis, the Research Paper – Annotated
Bibliography, and the Research Paper – Final Submission.
Some possible topics are given below, but this list is not exhaustive. The paper must be 10–15
typed pages and must follow the standards listed below. Stylistic conformity is an important
aspect of this grade. The Research Paper is worth 20% of your final grade for the course.

2. An introductory paragraph that encapsulates and expands upon the thesis statement. This
helps the reader know where the paper is headed and any appropriate background or
foundation information needed.
3. A clear conclusion section that summarizes the content into a succinct, but thorough,
wrap-up of your findings. This must reinforce the thesis.
4. There must be no fewer than 10 unique cited sources from a mix of peer-reviewed
published material and books written by recognized experts in the field. You must avoid
books written by celebrity authors for popular or general audiences.
5. There must be evidence of critical analysis of the thesis and literature throughout the
paper.
6. There must be practical applications of the findings within the body of the paper.
7. As you make each approach, make sure that you examine it (why or how could it work?
What are the weaknesses or liabilities?).
