Discussion Thread: Interview Project Responses

Thank you so much for sharing your interview experience with us! It warmed my heart to
hear their story through you. One common denominator I keep hearing when it comes to
discipling children in our homes is to have a Christ-centered home, which means that the parents
put Jesus first in all they do! And I feel this is the foundational principle because when we put
God first, especially in our home, righteousness, peace, and joy will naturally become the fruit.
When we center ourselves in Christ, His identity shines through us, and the world’s identity does
not have space to grow in our lives. Our children will increase not only in loving and honoring
God but also in obedience. Therefore, it starts with the heart. According to Tripp, “what your
children say and do is a reflection of what is in their hearts.”1 The Bible asks us to guard our
hearts vigilantly because all life issues flow from the heart (Prob. 4:23). The heart is the soil of
life, and we reap what we sow. Therefore, we must sow the Word into our children. We must be
examples of Christ for them, and we must train and disciple them so that they can protect
themselves against the world’s influences.

Thank you so much for sharing your interview. I especially love that you inquired about
what their regular family daily setting looked like because their response was on point! That
shows what their priorities are. And their focus, before doing anything else, was to pray and
praise God with thanksgiving. A blessing comes from humbling ourselves and approaching the
throne of grace with thanksgiving and knowing and acknowledging that we cannot do anything
without God and need Him. It is foundational to disciple our children early in their lives to
understand and realize deep in their hearts that we are thankful for life, shelter, potable water,
provision, health, and all the other things most of us can take for granted. If parents do not teach
their children kingdom principles, they will not be prepared for the world’s message. The world
will bring their “celebrities” to try and teach our children how to act and live.2 They will learn
the world’s values instead of God’s. Children have two classrooms to learn from, the world and
their homes. And God has given parents the responsibility to teach their children in the right
classroom.
