Running Head: ENGLISH 1
As you read in chapter 11, you learned how the Roman value system was very pragmatic.
Pragmatism used in the philosophical sense, is a belief system having various forms, but generally
stressing practical consequences as constituting the essential criterion in determining meaning,
truth, or value. It deals less with theory as well as idealism and more with practicality. This value of
being pragmatic explains what the Roman people saw when they interacted with the world around
them. They were interpreting their situation by applying their worldview and living their lives
accordingly, just as we do today as we interpret the world around us.
List at least 3 of their achievements and explain how each of them expressed the pragmatism of the
Romans.Your discourse must indicate that you have an understanding of this value. If you include
sources, cite them in current APA format.

Pragmatism in the Roman Value System
I agree that the Roman value system was very pragmatic. Mainly, the Roman value
system is considered from an outlook or a worldview perspective due to its achievements and
advantages. One of the achievements of the system is its contribution in education across the
globe. Primarily, the system plays a critical role in the establishment of vocational centers that
promote learning. Another achievement is the ability to acknowledge and identify the social
production and efficiency of individuals. More significantly, it is critical to facilitate global
understanding by providing practical and modern worldview and outlook per se (Dewey, 2012).
Moreover, the Roman value system saves the labor of many learners by emphasizing tangible
results and impacts rather than the strategies used to achieve them.
Consequently, the Romans were passionate observers of their value system in terms of
outlook and methodology. In that regard, Romans used the value system in developing
innovation in a manner that the majority of the contenders could not achieve in that time. The
achievements of Romans who used value systems were evident in vast areas. One of the most
famous achievements was the work of builders who created aqueducts (Dewey, 2012). More
achievements associated with the Roman value system include hydraulics, entertainment sources,
domes, cathedrals, bridges, roads, architecture, and changes in the transport sector. Thus, using
pragmatism in the Roman value system was essential in determining how Roman interpreted and
interacted with their surroundings. Overall, all the achievements could be identified based on the
pragmatic and rigor strategy towards their surrounding environments.
