I believe that all areas of art are important to a culture because people can learn from all the
different forms of art. With all forms of art people have to think about what the person is trying
to tell them. People have learned a lot about our past through philosophy and history, but I feel
that the most effective areas within a culture are the expressive arts. Visual arts are effective
because they can tell a story without words. You don't have to understand the language or even
be able to read to see and understand a painting, sculpture, photo, films, graphic designs or
architecture. Literary art is also effective because it tells a story with words. People often read to
gain knowledge, relieve stress, or to escape from the world for a time. Literature can provide a
clear account of the past and help people learn from it. Performing art is effective because it also
tells a story either with a play or dance. With performing arts, you do not have to read but if it is
a play you do have to somewhat understand the language. For me, out of visual art, literary art
and performing art, I feel that visual art is most effective because visual art can speak to
everyone. With visual art, it doesn't matter if you are young, old, or a different culture, everyone
can gain something from looking at paintings, sculptures, photos, films, graphic designs
or architecture. "In some instances, the visual arts are the primary method used to identify the
values of a culture, as the artwork communicates emotion to the individual viewing it" (Rawls,
2016).
