Budgeting System Menu Assignment
The menu I would design for the dashboard of XYZ Company’s budgeting system would be the
same on the dashboard screen as it would be for the rest of the system screens. I would have the menu
float in place on the left side of the page for easy navigation and consistency no matter what screen the
user is on within the system. The menu would allow users to access all the various system features
available to them from any screen, such as: scenario and assumption options, running the current
scenario they have created, running reports, and access to administrative functions.
On the menu I would have drop-down sections for any selection that has multiple options. For
example, under “Scenario Options” there would be selections for if the user wants to create a new
scenario, open an existing scenario, or delete an existing scenario. They would also have the option to
rename saved scenarios or compare scenarios. They could also set a scenario as “current” under the
Scenario Options section of the menu.
Depending on the options the user selects on the menu the system would take them to other
system screens or ask them pop-up questions to confirm their selections, but the menu would stay the

same on each screen. An example of this would be if the user wanted to delete a scenario or
assumption, the system would create a pop-up box simply confirming or cancelling the user’s request.
The same concept would be applied to the rest of the menu options. If the user wanted to
create a report they would go to “Reports” under the menu options, which would reveal drop-down
options of the various reports they can run. If the user wanted to create or edit assumptions they would
go to the “Assumptions Options” section of the menu where they would have the ability to create, edit,
and delete assumptions.
The first four menu options (Scenario Options, Assumption Options, Run Current Scenario, and
Reports) would be available to all users. The fifth option of “Administration” would only be available to
users who have already been designated as system administrators. Clicking “Main Menu” on the menu
would take the user back to the main system screen.
