REFERRAL QUESTION/REASON FOR TESTING:
Mr. Longrun was referred by Greater New Commandment Baptist Church for evaluation
concerning his ability to function in the position of a Senior Pastor of a large urban church. He
has never pastored a large congregation. Most of his pastoring has been in small rural areas with
congregations of mostly older adults. The demographic of this urban area include a large
population of millennials, homosexuals and single mothers. There are higher than average
unemployment rates noted in this area as well.

EXAMINEE BACKGROUND:
Mr. Richard C. Longrun, 50 year-old, divorced Haitian American male, works as a Fire Captain
for the District of Columbia Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department. He has two
children ages 23 (male) and 19 (female). He was the custodial parent of both children. Both
children are currently attending college and do not live at home. He is average height with a
muscular build. He exhibits a youth appearance. He was well groomed, and neatly dressed.
Which was appropriately for the season. He often smiled and was very attentive during the
interview. He asked for clarification when he did not understand a question. He finds his work as
a fireman very satisfying. He believes that being a fireman has helped him with his calling as a
minster. He reports having a great relationship with his ex-wife but feels his job as a fireman
greatly affected their marriage. He has a mixture of friendships. He believes the balance of
friends and family is what helps him reach the youth in his Church’s community. He admitted
that he is often overwhelmed by the disparities within his Church’s community. He denies any
health issues, mentally or physically. He reported he has been diagnosed twice with Acute Stress
Disorder (ASD). During his last episode he was prescribed psychotic medications. He admitted
to having issues with sleeping in the past and was prescribed sleeping medication. These
medications were prescribed while under the care of a psychiatrist. He denies taking
psychotropic, hypnotics or illegal substances.

The International Personality Item Pool Representation of the NEO PI-R (IPIP-NEP) is a
computer based assessment that offers a long and short version. The long version was used for
this assessment which consist of 300 items. This assessment estimates an individual’s ability in
five board personality domains and 30 sub-domains of the Five-Factor Model. A five point
Likert-type scale is used as the scoring mechanism. An objective report is generated which
classifies the person as low, average, or high. Scores lower than 30% are considered “low”,
scores between 30% - 70% are considered “average” and scores over 70% are considered “high”.
Scores are compared to persons of the same sex and age.

Jung Personality Test
The Jung Personality Test (JPT) is a 64 question inventory that uses a five point Likert-type scale
for scoring. This is a computer based personality inventory that is used to assess an individual’s
general attitude, functions and perceptions, and their judging functions. The preferences are
called dichotomies and there are 16 possible combinations that are based on personality traits.
Scores are based on a continuum that lies between two poles that are opposites with 100% on
each end (100%----0----100%). For example a person could score 50% extroverted, which means
they are 50% closer to the extraverted pole than the introverted pole.
The following represents Mr. Longrun’s JPT results. The highlight acronyms are his personality
trait combination.

Becks Depression Inventory
The Becks Depression Inventory (BDI) is a self-reporting inventory that consist of 21 questions
that measures characteristic attitudes and depression. The inventory is designed for individuals
aged 13 through 80 years old. The scoring range is 0 to 63 with 0 being the lowest and 63 being
the highest. The inventory uses a Likert type scale. This inventory can be paper based or
computer based. The inventory takes approximately 10 minutes.

Richards’s total score for the BDI is presented below and is bolded and highlighted yellow. The

Beck Anxiety Inventory
The Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) is a self-reporting inventory that consist of 21 items that
measure anxiety using a point scale similar to a Likert scale that ranges from 0-3. The inventory
should be administered to individuals 17 and older. Paper based inventory takes approximately 5-
10 minutes. The score ranges are from 0 to above 36 (0 is the lowest while scores may exceed
36).

PSYCHOLOGICAL IMPRESSIONS:
Mr. Longrun is very outgoing and friendly. He enjoys helping people. He articulated his feeling
and thought well during the interview. He appeared to be honest, open and cooperative. He gives
the impression he has the ability to interact with others socially. He views himself as loving,
caring, honest and giving.
Mr. Longrun is internally motivated and committed to his calling to teach and lead people to
Christ. His love for Christ is the guiding force of his life. His motivations are driven by his
extroverted personality. He prefers to be around people as much as possible. He is very energetic
and outgoing. He never stops thinking about serving people, helping other or giving back
because he believes he was called to be a servant of the people. He offers support to individuals
in needs whenever possible, this is why he became a fireman. God is the driving force of his life
and he believes that he will rest in heaven. His extraverted personality allows him understand the

persona and respect their circumstances while meeting them where they are in life. He
understands the difference between judging and discernment. Based on these things Richard
should be a great asset to this ministry.
The Results of the IPIP-NEO (Extraversion, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, Neuroticism, and
Openness to Experience domains), the JPT (introverted vs. extraverted, sensing vs. intuition,
thinking vs. feeling and judging vs. perceiving), BDI (Depression), and the BAI (Anxiety)
support that Mr. Longrun is extraverted, enjoys serving others and will do well in new social
setting. The results also suggest he will not become overwhelmed nor will he succumb to
depression or anxiety.
He is likely to express a range of positive feelings and possessing a positive mood that will
invoke happiness and joy into to the lives of those around him. He is very considerate of others
and understand how to compromise with others. He appears to have a humanistic nature. He
looks for the good in everyone. The results indicated he sets clears goals, he is hardworking and
reliable. They also indicated that Richard was sympathetic towards other but dislikes
confrontations.
He appeared to be in control of this emotions and feeling throughout the entire interview which
was supported by him testing low in the area of neuroticism on the IPIP-NEO. The results
indicated that if placed in tense situations he would be exceptionally clam in these environments
when other would be overly stressed. He articulated his emotions and feelings well throughout
the interview. Mr. Longrun appears to have a very assertive but caring attitude. This indicates
that he would be a suitable for a position as an Urban Pastor because his ability to development
reasonable goals that will be achievable because he accounts for all possible outcomes.
He scored unusually low in some of the subdomain of Openness on the IPIP-NEO which
indicated he would be willing to try new things, which would be great for this new position. But
these low scores also indicated that even though he appears well-educated to others he may lack
intellectual abilities. This was very consistent during the interview when he noted, he would
rather deal with people directly, because this is what gives the most joy. He stated, “I was called
to serve and I will serve until I die.” The results indicated that low scorers on Intellect prefer
dealing with people or things so his highly supported that Richard would be a great fit in this
environment as a leader of a large urban church.
Mr. Longrun’s scores on the JPT (Introvert, iNtuitive, Thinking, Judging) indicate being a leader
would be a excellent fit for him because he has the ability to influence others on behalf of causes
which are good, worthy and humane. These traits are highly exhibited by his unspoken attitude
of good will and also in his diplomatic actions and behaviors. Anything is possible and
everything is negotiable is the attitude that is needed when dealing with a diverse population and
the results indicate that these were possible values of Mr. Longrun. This gives the impression that
he understands his calling and would work well in this position.
Richard’s score on the BDI (Depression) indicated he was exhibiting mild signs of depression at
the time the test was administered. However, these scores were not congruent with the IPIP-NEO
scores that indicated that his depression, anxiety and anger were low. At the time of the interview
Mr. Longrun noted he was anxious and had some self-doubt about pastoring a large congregation
in an urban area. He did not exhibiting concentration issues or low motivation towards his

currently employment situations. It appears he has the ability to tackle stressful situations but
may not have the resources available to recognize that he is hiding the sadness or stress in his
work as a pastor. These finding do not support or negate his abilities to pastor a large urban
church.
Mr. Longrun score on the BAI (Anxiety) indicates a low level of anxiety. He admitted to feeling
anxious because he does not want to fail in this new position. He noted he had never pastored a
large urban congregation. Richard noted that when God calls you to do a job He will equip you
for the job. The low score indicates that he is able to work in stressful environments and not
allow this stress to directly affect his personal life. He appears to handle stress well noted by his
current position as a Fire Captain. He has experienced stressful events at work and was able to
return to work fully functional. The results of this test support his ability to sever in the role of a
senior pastor in a large urban church.
CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS:
Ricard C. Longrun is a 50 year old male who was referred by Greater New Commandment
Baptist Church for evaluation concerning his ability to perform as a Senior Pastor of a large
urban church. This evaluation was part of the application process. He is a single, divorced man
with two adult children. He has a good relationship with his ex-wife. He holds a Bachelor’s
Degree in Fire Science with a minor in Biblical Studies. He also holds a Master’s Degree in
Engineering in Fire Protection and a Doctoral Degree in Theology. He enjoys being a Fire
Captain but gets the most fulfilment from being a Pastor and serving his congregation and
community.
Richard was administered a series of psychological battery assessments, which included the
Examinee Biography, The international Personality Item Pool Representation of the NEO-PI-R
(IPIP-NEO), Jung Personality Test (JPT), Becks Depression Inventory (BDI), and Becks Anxiety
Inventory (BAI).
Based on the findings of the battery of psychological test administered it is the recommendation
of this examiner that Richard should be a suitable candidate for the position of Senior Pastor for
the following reason:
a) Mr. Longrun demonstrates personal characteristics that are favorable and functional of a
person who is capability of performing in unfamiliar situations, environments and/or
positions such as a pastor of a large urban church.
b) Mr. Longrun appears to exhibit minor signs of undue stress which might affect his
abilities if left unaddressed. He is currently performing all duties associated with his
current position as a Senior Pastor.
c) Mr. Longrun is not excessively troubled by depression and anxiety disorders that might
be intensified by the possible challenges he may face as the pastor of a large urban
church. However, a mentor should be assigned to Mr. Longrun so he can have a support
system in place to addresses his feelings of failure if things do not go as planned the first
year.

d) Mr. Longrun is likely to create a positive encouraging atmosphere with the members of
the urban community and the congregational members because he is able to empathize
with and understand that God loves all in spite of the path they have chosen. He can
recognize, discern and balance relationships within the spiritual and secular worlds in a
health manner. This is all done because he is able to lean on biblical ethics and doctrine
because God have taught him humility which he exhibits towards fellow believers and
nonbelievers.
