Abstract
Family dynamics are often overwhelming to visualize, especially if one has a large
family. Personalities, loyalties, and reconciliations are all things that shape us in one way or
another; these factors can be challenging to understand that is why a genogram is so helpful. In

Growing up, I knew of dirt roads and that all the men on my dad’s side of the family were
preachers, all except my Pawpaw (Lonnie Bearfoot-English). I came from a long line of healers
and preachers. My great-paternal grandparents grew up off and on the Machis Creek reservation
in Anniston, AL, where sharecropping was expected, and Arnice Bearfoot-English was a circuit-

this paper, I will discuss my family genogram and all the intricacies that detail my maternal and
paternal great-grandparents and how that relates to my life. In my family, there is a mix of
cultures and new beginnings. There is a tradition of adopting and embracing our shared heritage.
I will share my interpretive analysis of my family and how that relates to my identity. I will
explore the nuances of my family's life cycle and the overarching themes I have seen throughout
my lifetime. In closing this paper, I will address what familial attributes I can apply to be a better
