Assessment
The assessment used to clarify the diagnosis of the client was the Alcohol Use Disorder
Identification Test (AUDIT). The 10-item screening test evaluates alcohol usage, drinking habits,
and alcohol-related issues. A score of eight or above considers dangerous alcohol usage. The
AUDIT validates genders and racial/ethnic groups and is well-suited for usage in primary care
settings (Neufeld et al., 2021). Patients should be encouraged to respond to the AUDIT self-
report questions about drinks they drink often. This assessment should be used compared to other
assessments because the clinician will better understand Jeff’s drinking behaviors, alcohol intake,
and how others are concerned about his intake. Since this assessment validates across all
genders, it will show accurate results whether a male or female completes the assessment. Based
on Jeff’s case, there is a high chance he will score above eight on the self-report assessment.
