When it comes to a career it can become a difficult decision especially assessing what
career path to take. As a student, an individual can often envision what career path will be their
true passion for a career that they will love and enjoy. Often individuals take specific surveys
such as the O*NET Interest Profiler. Assessments can help individuals come to conclusions about
what career fits them based on personality and interest. The focus of this paper will determine
document my results from the O*NET Interest Profiler assessment.
Career Instrument Results
My scores from the O*NET interest profiler for my interest results are Realistic -0,
Investigative-4, Artistic- 12, Social- 29, Enterprising- 20, and Conventional- 24. My top Holland
vocational personality types consist of social, enterprising, and conventional. Social entail
manipulation of others to inform, train, develop, cure, or enlighten. (Niles, & Harris-Bowlsbey,
2017). An individual that possesses the social personality sees themselves as trustworthy and
helpful. They have the values to helping people and solving social problems. Their careers
consist of therapists and social workers. My next vocational personality type is enterprising.
According to Holland's Theory of Career Choice (2020), “Enterprising: Likes to lead and
persuade people, and to sell things and ideas; generally, avoids activities that require careful
observation and scientific, analytical thinking:". Individuals with this personality trait are true
leaders and take risks. They can persuade others and lead. From my perspective when I think
about enterprising, I think of business owners who know to start up and carry out projects in a
business setting. Lastly, conventional personality traits consist of following a great leader.
Conventional is one of the traits that I am truly having an issue with being connected to. It is so
far from what I see myself as a person in general. Holland's Theory of Career Choice (2020)

states, “Conventional: Sees self as orderly, and good at following a set plan.” When I think of
order, I don’t see myself in the equation. From reading further into the personality trait I noticed
that conventional individuals prefer working with information and paying attention to details
rather than working with ideas. (National Center for O*NET Development).
Personal Reactions
When reviewing my results, I have to say that I am quite puzzled really. My score with being
conventional was 24 and that is so surprising to me. Conventional plays by a clear and precise set
of rules. I cannot say that I am the type of person to break rules, but I have the mindset to be an
individual and create my flow when it comes to my career. My motto has always been working
smarter not harder. It has always been one of my strongest assets as an employee. I have created
ways to follow the rules but making processes easier. My artistic score was lower than I thought,
which shocked me. I have been a painter and designer since I was in my teens. To find that it has
shifted some is making me rethink my passions in my personal life overall. I don't think the
result fits my self-perception at all. I am generally openminded and create with my work in any
aspect, both career and personal. I can agree with the social score of 24. I am very outgoing and
love meeting new people. From the assessment, I have a social interest in helping others learn
and grow. I do agree with this aspect of the assessment because it is what I do and learning to be.
When it comes to others, I just love the aspects of giving back and having the ability to help. My
overall goal in life is to always give back to my community, especially when it comes to therapy
and counseling.
External Influences

Running head: WHO AM I PAPER
When completing the assessment there were a few external influences I noticed after it
was taken. I do feel that my age as played a role in the results. Being in my thirties I am
understanding the conventional score to some point. I have been through more experiences
compared to my twenties and live a more settling life. When it comes to orders I do like to have a
clear understanding of what needs to be done but I still feel that I possess a more artistic side to
how I play by the rules. Another external influence was I completed the assessment during my
lunch break at work, so I feel that I picked some answers that were work-related because I was
doing some of those things before, I took the assessment. Also felt rushed, which at the end of
the day my life is full of chaos and I never see when I have time to sit around a truly have a
moment of thought. I read each question I know I did nut I knew it was not a graded assessment
so I picked answers freely, which could also be a good thing.
Conclusions
O*NET Interest Profiler. Assessments can help individuals come to conclusions about
what career fits them based on personality and interest. My scores from the O*NET interest
profiler for my interest results are Realistic -0, Investigative-4, Artistic- 12, Social- 29,
Enterprising- 20, and Conventional- 24. My top Holland vocational personality types consist of
social, enterprising, and conventional. The results tend to compare to each other when it comes
to the career path that I am currently on. Being social comes from my whole journey with
counseling. Being enterprising and conventional go hand in hand with the rules that need to be
followed and being a leader. At the end of my career journey, I would love to have a private
practice so I would have to be strict about the laws and follow through with being a business
owner. The work environment that I see with these traits are those with structure and order,
which I can agree with. I know with clients that there must be confidentiality and laws that need

to be followed per me keeping my license. When it comes to my past careers and education, I
would have thought my results would have been more artistic and investigative. I have always
appreciated art and design. I started my associate degree in the arts. In my twenties, I thought
about being an architect or interior designer but my life so much different now. In the past, I
played by my own rules and worried about the consequences later, now how the tables have
turned. I am more responsible for the decisions I make in the present. This has led me to
understand the results more.
