Personality and Career
The Big Five
After taking the Big Five Personality Test, I found my results to be interesting. My highest
scoring factor was agreeableness. Agreeableness is having a big heart and caring about other
people, which I feel is accurate to me. I was surprised that this was my highest scored trait

because I had the mindset that consciousness was going to be my highest. Having structure and
a set schedule are traits that the military has engraved into my head, which reflects in what I
do. My next highest was extraversion. I agree with this one since I love to meet new people and
have no problem striking up conversation with others. Another aspect that being in the military
has brought me. My lowest result was intellect/imagination, or openness. I am not that open to
new ideas or wanting to tackle challenges. I like to take the easy way out and do not like
change.
Most people do not like change so I do not feel too bad about scoring low in this category.
The results of the personality test was reassurement that I am on the right path in
choosing a career. My current career path is in nursing which is great to see that my highest
personality trait was agreeableness. Helping people in need and feeling empathy for others is
exactly what nursing is. Scoring high in the trait of agreeableness and extraversion makes me a
perfect fit for a career in the medical field. Being able to talk to strangers and help them out
when they are in are huge aspects in nursing. Fortunately, my career path and personality
results go hand in hand with each other and is a great sign that I am heading in the right
direction. A challenge that this job might throw at me would be being open to trying new
things. For example, if someone is sick or injured and the treatment is not working, I would
have to be open to trying new techniques that someone else suggests. This goes with my lowest
scoring personality trait of openness. A way I could get past this obstacle would be knowing that
this
new technique could save that person’s life or make their quality of life better. Being open to
new possibilities is something that I am not strong in but as time goes on I will be able to put
that to the side and get the job done.

This project was a nice assessment to see if I am pursuing a career path that is fit for my
personality. It was neat to see the traits that I scored low in which got me thinking of ways to
improve them. Trying new things and being open to change are two aspects that I will be
working on in the future. I guess I am about to be the new ‘Yes Man’.
