ETHICAL VIGNETTE 2
Abstract
All counselors play a significant role in trying to improve, form, and influence clients. The
counselor has a very important role and responsibility in developing and preserving the
relationship with the client. According to Burns (2020), the counselor also must supervise the
welfare of the client by educating them and safeguarding their confidentiality. The American
Counseling Association (ACA) provides a code of ethics to assist counselors when faced with
complex and tough situations that may take place (Kaplan et al., 2017). The American
Counseling Association provides a foundation for the counselor to be able to work in the mental
health field ethically and with confidence. The ACA protects the client’s self-esteem-esteem.
The ACA also provides the ethical guidelines and the obligations the counselor has to the client
(Burns, 2020). This can assist the counselor when deciding the action plan for the client while
following ethical standards. The state laws, regulations, and federal laws all protect the safety of
the client and, community health, and are guides for the counselor to conduct themselves
appropriately. The standards should be upheld no matter how the method of Counseling is
delivered (Burns, 2020).
