Upon issuance of
a license in
accordance with
this chapter, a
licensee may:
advertise services
as a marriage and
family therapist;
use the title of
“licensed
marriage
therapist”,
“licensed marital
therapist”, or
“licensed
marriage and
family therapist”;
and practice
marriage and
family therapy.
“Marriage and
family therapist
licensure
candidate” means
a person who is
registered
pursuant to 37-
37-205 to engage
in marriage and
family therapy
and earn
supervised work
experience
necessary for
licensure.

for example,
marriage and
family
counseling
with an
educational
program
consisting of a
minimum of 48
semester hours
(or 72 quarter
hours) that
includes at
least 36 hours
of courses
comprised of
human
development,
family

dynamics,
marriage and
family
systems/system
theory,
marriage and
family therapy,
ethics in
marriage and
family therapy,
and research in
marriage and
family therapy;
and
in addition, at
least nine
hours of credit
must be earned
in actual direct
client contact,
including at
least six

fee, monetary or
otherwise, either
directly or
through public or
private
organizations.
