Abstract
The article being reviewed “Posttraumatic Growth in Relation to the Frequency and Severity of
Traumatic Experiences Among Police Officers in Small to Midsize Departments” demonstrates
the necessity for forensic psychologists in law enforcements. Composed by facilitators with
PhD’s, A “Critical Incident History Questionnaire” was used for the first time in order to
appropriately measure posttraumatic growth as it is in the “posttraumatic Growth Inventory”
(Chopko & Adams, 2016). This study aimed to explore all traumatic factors that law enforcement
officers experience without the exclusion of personal factors which was pioneering as compared
to previous studies that focused solely within law enforcement stress experienced while in the
work environment. The other compelling portion of the study was the focus on smaller to
midsized departments as opposed to the typical larger based police departments which generally
those that are studied due to the ease of sample size; however, the basis of this study was to also
show that no matter the size of the department, all experience traumatic factors that affect them
when they work as members of humanity who need to deal with extreme situations which affect
them mentally.
