Describe techniques for engaging diverse groups and the procedure for
building police-community partnerships.
Selected
Answer:
There are multiple techniques that can be used when engaging
diverse groups. Diversity affects police-community relations in
alot of ways and culture influences behavior so its somethingthat
police can not simple ignore (Meese III & Ortmeier, 2010). If
policeunderstandandappreciateindividualsandgroupswithin a
cultural context, it can expand and strengthen police-
community relationships and provide opportunities for open
communication (Meese III & Ortmeier, 2010). What can also help
is understanding the interpersonal communication skills of
different cultures. Interpersonal communications andinteractions
are understood in terms of the cultural context through which
the interaction takes place (Meese III & Ortmeier,
2010).Usingcommunicationskillstocommunicationwith diverse
groups on a culturally appropriate way may help (Meese III &
Ortmeier, 2010). Police officers can not let their personal biases
or prejudices get in the way of how they interact with a diverse
society (Meese III & Ortmeier, 2010). The procedure for building
police-community partnerships is creating meaningful roles for
the community and training citizens on these roles,

community involvement rather than simple awareness, focusing
recruitment efforts toward existing community organizations and
ensuring that community meetings are worth while (Meese III &
