Telework Discussion
Telework, a concept that is sometimes known as working from home or a mobile setting
outside the usual office, can be a very flexible opportunity for many employees and, in some cases,
very positive for an employer. This concept provides numerous advantages and disadvantages.
The ability to have a better life-work balance for employees is key to ensuring productivity and
organizational goals being met since a less stressful environment like the office is available for
exploitation. Organizations can have enormous financial savings attributed to less physical office
space and the expenditures that come with having premises (Johnson, 2013). Teleworking can also
allow employers to realise decreased employee training costs and a lower recruitment initiative
because employee retention is easy and cost-effective for the organization.
Accidents and or failures in crucial operational chains of business occur every day, and
thus a business continuity plan can be executed simply due to the inherent benefits teleworking
provides. Organizations can continue offering services as the majority of its providers are not
centralized. On the employee’s side, a lower cost on personal expenditure is quite visible. This can
be traced to the expenses incurred for personal grooming, commuting to work, and overall time
lost in performing these tasks. This means that an employee can work longer comfortable hours
and become more productive for their employer.
However, the lack of supervision provides lapses in concentration through the high risk of
distraction. With a lack of guaranteed security, company information becomes vulnerable to
security threats, both physical and electronic. There is very minimal human interaction for
employees, which downplays the benefits of networking and teamwork that could be nurtured.
There is pressure to perform for teleworking employees compared to those who work at the office
(Kamyar and Saketi, 2015). From a biblical perspective, teleworking can be referenced to the
spread of the gospel. The disciples were sent out to establish churches and rally people to know of
Christianity. They did not perform their duties from a central location. Most of them were from
different backgrounds and, as such, provided different levels of outreach for Christianity.
