The Christian worldview is a set of ideas and beliefs that Christians interpret and
interact with the world. It guides Christians all over the world in their everyday
encounters. It is especially
important for individuals who deal with crisis and major dilemmas (University of
Cumberlands, 2017). Christian worldview is abundant throughout the world but, one
place it is required more than anywhere is the law enforcement sector, where
there is a lot of dilemma and a call for
action.
Law enforcement professionals are handed a great deal of responsibility to
represent and uphold the standards of law and they ought to follow the rule of law
according to the biblical principles they sought out their entire lives (Kopko, 2011).
As a creator of God, crime is embedded in the sinful nature of men and God knew
this when He created us that mankind is going to commit sin no matter what but,
He also showed mankind the path to repent for those sins. Similarly, as a law
enforcement officer, some men try to put themselves above the law, which is
technically going above the Commandments of Jesus Himself. We have seen
instances of racial biases and criminal indictments of police officers in America a lot
of times and what this has proved is that no one is above the law and many officers
have failed to follow the biblical principles of serving the people.
In a Huffington Post news data published in 2017, more than 223 black Americans
were killed by police officers after Colin Kaepernick’s protest in the NFL. This figure
alone should shock us and we need to ask ourselves these questions on what we
need to do to end police violence in America. As a police officer in America, it is one
of the toughest job to be involved in, given the amount of unrest and crimes we
have in our communities. Furthermore, having to maintain the morality and the
ethical values of law enforcement is extremely important given all the incidents that
have happened in this country. I believe, incorporating the Christian worldview in
criminal justice makes it all the more important with everything that has been
happening in America. The Judicial laws were created to enforce the moral laws that
God incorporated on all of us, but at times, law enforcement have been known to
infringe these laws and we have to accept and
make paths for changes to happen. As mentioned in Galatians 5:19-21, “Now
the works of
the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality,
idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions,
divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I
warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the
kingdom of God”, the law enforcement agencies in America must
incorporate and inherit the Kingdom of God, so everyone, and not just the
select few in America can put their hopes and faith in law enforcement
officers again.
