The Relationship between Social Worker and Inmates
The paper evaluates the social work intervention practices provided by the social worker
in catering to the welfare of the intimates and elaborates on the role of the social workers in the
correctional service. Further, the paper covers the world's view on the same topic.
The Role of Social Workers in Correctional Service
Implementation of Policies
The social workers play a role in establishing and implementing policies that affect the
inmates and those related to community safety. On the hand of the intimate, such policies include
sentencing policies and policies on bailing and bonding of the inmates (Roy, n.d.).
Relationship with Parole Office
The social workers in prison have a mandated role of providing a report to the parole
office containing the recommendation that will help determine the inmate's release conditions.
(Matejkowski& Severson, 2014). Releasing any inmate on parole or probation has to consider
the impact of such a decision on both the inmate and society.
Social Work Interventions with Intimates
Legal Assistance
One of the interventions by the social worker in correctional services is the legal
assistance for the inmates (Yesudhas, 2011). The prison hosts remand offenders who require
legal help during court case trials. The right to a legal representation is well provided for in the
Bill of Rights to ensure an individual has a fair trial.
Psychological Assistance
Secondly, the social workers provide psycho-social assistance to the inmates (Yesudhas,
2011). The prison conditions are not relatively conducive, resulting in the inmates suffering
3
psychologically. Additionally, the inmates may think of the families they leave behind during
their imprisonment, making them suffer from stress.
Worldview
People’s Perspective
All social workers and other professionals should uphold the boundaries for their
protection and protect the inmates and the organization. The purpose of the boundaries is to
strengthen the relationship between the social workers and inmates and make it professional even
when handling more complex issues.
Biblical View
Furthermore, the field has an ahistorical approach to the matter, treating it as if it were
somehow forbidden to address our clients' spiritual lives and include our own faith experiences
(or lack thereof) into good social work practice (Martínez-Ariño & Zwilling, 2020).
