Abstract
today we are going to look at a newspaper article that talks about school shootings in the United
States of America. From 2018 - 2022 their headband 75 people killed in school shootings across
the United States of America. School shootings occur so much that a lot of people aren't even
surprised by when they happen anymore. Students don't feel safe in schools anymore and are
worried that just another normal day at school could turn into a nightmare at any moment.
Schools need to protect their students better and need to have plans in place for when incidents
such as school shootings present themselves. 19 children and two adults were killed at rob
elementary school in Uvalde TX, at the time this was the largest school shooting since the Sandy
Hook massacre. In 2022 there were 27 school shootings and the year before that in 2021 there
had been 36. We need to find ways to limit school shootings in the United States and to make
sure that we can protect the future generations of our country so that they can continue to further
their education without the fear of never coming home from school again.

75 People Have Been Killed in US School Shootings Since 2018.
Research has shown that school shooters have severe mental health problems that usually
occur from bullying or being mistreated in their everyday lives. This can occur at school or even
at home with their families. School shooters are also known to be desensitized and have issues
with separating reality and fiction. School shooters are more than likely to have been exposed to
violence whether they received that through video games, TV shows and movies or through
personal situations. Mental health is a huge aspect of school shootings that is not talked about
enough, there needs to be better programs put into place to help detect when a student's mental
health is failing. According to Philadelphia Inquirer (2022), “In 2022 alone, there have been 27
school shootings this year, Education Week reported. There were 34 shootings in 2021” (n.p.). In
the United States school shootings are becoming more common, and the safety of the students in
those schools needs to be top priority. (Philadelphia Inquirer.,2022).
