What Does Justice Look Like?
CHOICE: Group B- Defense Attorney (Court-Appointed Lawyer)/Salesclerk (victim)
As previously said, I went with the defense lawyer/sales clerk option. The person designated by
the court to represent the defendant in court is a defense lawyer. In this situation, Adam would be
regarded as the defendant and the sales clerk as the plaintiff. Adam is already facing numerous
accusations, including possession of drugs and property offenses, none of which posed a risk to the
community. There is a concussion affecting the sales clerk. Her head injuries during the heist resulted in
a concussion, which is causing her to experience difficulty sleeping, memory loss, sensitivity to light and
noise, personality changes, and difficulty concentrating. She is unable to work due to all of these long-
term conditions, and she is also unable to pay her medical expenses.
Rather than the thief attempting to injure her, the sales clerk may view the incident as a
straightforward robbery for financial gain. The sales clerk believes that Adam is to blame for her sudden
health problems. He contributed to her self-harm by terrorizing her with the store robbery and by
claiming to be carrying a gun with him. She had a brain injury as a result of the robbing, which resulted
in long-term issues with her health and daily life. Regarding Adams' side of the case, it might be
reflected that it was done solely out of a need for money. Adam has a court case that is still unresolved
and requires him to pay a bail of $25,000 dollars. He has also been suspended from driving. Due to his
huge family, Adam struggles to make ends meet and pay for utilities, school fees, and other expenses.
Adams' crime can be explained away as an attempt to provide for his family rather than a deliberate
attempt to cause harm to members of the community.
Everyone would want the court to come to a decision that would be advantageous to both of
the disputing parties. The sales clerk would like some relief provided to her as a result of the defendant's
threatening act. The defense lawyer would like the judge to reach a decision that will allow Adam to get
a job and compensate the woman for the harm he has caused. If Adam and the Salesclerk's dispute is
settled in this way by providing a solution, then everyone will win. Adam and the sales clerk can come to
an understanding of the court's plan of justice, which will facilitate their decision-making. Technology
could be a useful tool to support approaches of resolving disputes (Forbes, 2021). Another useful tool
to assist the parties in reaching a consensus would be an arbitrator. Among the alternatives to litigation
is arbitration. When arbitration is used, it is sometimes possible to resolve a dispute without needing to
get together with the other party (WIPO, 2023). Every party will present their arguments and
suggestions, which will be taken into consideration when the verdict is rendered. The arbitrator will
make a final decision that is legally binding on both parties if the parties agree. As said in Romans 3:19–
20, “Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every
mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God. Therefore no one will be declared
righteous in God’s sight by the works of the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of our
sin.” (New International Version, 2016).
