Introduction
As ministers of the Word of God, each of us have a unique role in sharing the good news of
the Gospel to this lost and dying world around us. God has a specific plan for each of our lives.
Jeremiah 29:11 (ESV) says, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for
welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”1 In this assignment, I will aim to show
an evangelistic encounter I had while I was stopping to fill my car up with gas at the gas station.
My Encounter with David
Homelessness has become an epidemic here in the United States. After moving to the
Seattle/Tacoma area here in Washington State for my job in the US Army, I began to see
firsthand how homelessness has become an issue. While I was out at a local Fred Meyer gas
station filling up my car a few days ago, I had noticed a man who was standing out by the street
begging for some money and who wanted food. Feeling the nudge from the Holy Spirit to go
witness to this man, I parked my car after filling it up, and began to walk over to him. After
introducing myself, I asked him what his name was to which he replied, “David”. David had
asked me if I had some money that I could spare him, which I did not at the time. I did, however,
ask David if he would like to have something that is far greater than anything money could buy?
After I had asked this question, you could begin to see David ponder what I had just asked him.
He replied, “What’s that?” I then began to explain how he could know for sure that he would
have a home up in Heaven. I ran over to my car and grabbed a bible that I had and opened it to
the book of Romans and began sharing with David the “Romans Road”. I explained that in 1
John 1:9 (KJV), it reads that “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins,
and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”2 Taking him back to Romans 3:23 (KJV), I showed

David that this verse says that “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”3
Continuing, I turned to Romans 6:23 (KJV) which says, “For the wages of sin is death; but the
gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”4 I then asked David if he would like to
accept Jesus into heart? He turned to me and said that he would like to do that, and right on the
corner of the Fred Meyer gas station, I had the privilege of leading David through the “Sinner’s
Prayer” and David accepted Jesus to come into his heart. What a joy it was to see a man who
went from “hopeless” to a man who now had “hope”.
Conclusion
Sharing the Gospel to the homeless might make some uneasy, but Jesus calls for us to take the
Gospel everywhere. Authors Tim and Ashley Chang mention that we need to show the love of
Jesus and learn how to love others no matter who they are.5 I am greatly encouraged from this
evangelistic encounter that I had with David, that one day I will get to fellowship with him up in
Heaven.
