I really enjoyed the indepth view of your thread discussion. When you talked
about personal and interpersonal discipline this was an outstanding point. I truly
believe that more books should be written on this topic. I can see how the Body of
Christ has not even began to scratch the service on the subject of discipline but
from a personal standpoint. This is a missing element of our growth and maturity.
Churches do a great job of teaching but sometimes an entity like this probably
needs to be taught more on a continuous basis. Our character development as a
Christian hinges on having a disciplined life. Being a Christian can be extremely
difficult at times because there are so many vices and demonic forces that seek
to steal our identity in Christ. Going to church is an awesome expression of our
love toward Christ Jesus, but can also become a check the block action as well.
To get away from this we have to take the responsibility of taking the Word of
God and growing in areas where we are weak especially those elements of our
nature that may cause us to fall into sin. Thank you for sharing the spiritual
disciplines that you have to work on and being so descriptive as well. n the book
‘Spiritual Disciplines for the Christian Life,’ Donald Whitney has highlighted a series
of disciplines that can guide Christians towards godliness. Some of the main
disciplines identified in the book are serving, evangelism, worship, fasting, silence
and solitude, learning, scripture reading, prayer. Author Whitney has not only
identified these disciplines, but he has also shown the path that the readers could
follow in order to develop these disciplines and understand Christianity in the true
sense[1]. The main argument that has been presented by the author is that
Christians need to cultivate certain disciplines in them so that they could become
more like Jesus Christ. I agree with the arguments that have been presented by
the author. Jesus Christ was completely selfless, and he sacrificed his life to save
mankind. In order to value the contribution of Jesus Christ, individuals need to
indulge in certain practices so that they can identify the selfless deeds of Jesus
and become more like him. c c
After reading the book, I have identified three spiritual disciplines that I need to
strengthen in the future. These disciplines include fasting, worship, and learning.
God has given me everything, but many times I take these things for granted. So I
want to start fasting on a weekly basis. Fasting would act as a physical reminder
that I am hungry for the Lord[2]. It would also help me to appreciate and value
every meal that I consume. I plan to strengthen the ‘worship’ spiritual discipline. In
fast-paced times, it is very easy to feel lost and lose touch with Jesus Christ. I
plan to worship in Church daily so that I could feel connected with Christ.
Ultimately, I want to strengthen the learning discipline so that I can take in the
message in Gospel and apply it in my life. I want to learn by engaging with the
holy book Bible.
